Normal or Glossy Display for MacBooks Pros?

Post by kramerica » Fri Mar 23, 2007 2:13 pm

I'm gonna get a MacBook Pro and there is an option to get the display screen with a glossy widescreen display or a non-glossy widescreen display at no additional cost.

Apparently, the glossy version has greater color contrast. But there has to be a downside since the cost is the same for both versions. I'm worried that the glossy version will have glare issues, particularly when playing out live somewhere. Not sure if this is true.

Do you guys prefer 'glossy' or 'non-glossy'? Why?

i have choosen the glossy one.

and could not be happier. if the sun or a very strong light hits full on directly into the screen then you are lost with or without a glossy one, anyway.

i say go for glossy.

I got the non-glossy screen, the glare was nuts on the gossy one IMO. Even in the Apple store I was moving my head around to see things due to glare from the overhead lights. Cool looking, just too much glare possibilities considering I use mine in clubs and such at times.

I also opted for the matte, I find that the glare on the glossy distracts my attention from what's happening on the screen.

I dont think the glossy flavor is all that bad with glare. If I hadn't got my MBP while I was in design school, I'd have gone for the glossy myself. Like the poster above stated, if light hits your screen directly while in a club, either screen is rendered unviewable.

The colors look so much better with the glossy screen, which is reason in itself to get it.

I'm sitting here at work with some sunlit windows behind me. I can only image the annoying glare I would be experiencing with a glossy screen. Good thing I got the matte.

Interesting, pretty decent 50/50 split.
