while i love the idea of this korg thingamajigger, I dont think it will catch on in the club setups. I can see guys bringing this in and patching into a line input on the house sound, but big name dj's with gear riders are going to demand muddy DJM-600s and Xone:92's for many many years to come. Unless korg makes a product that is widely adopted by both DJs and live performers, this thing is going to flop. How much is the 4 channel version?

korg calls this an instrument, but it's a mixer. I don't get it...

why is this an instrument?

every mixing console is an instrument, if you choose to use it in such a way.
live sure looks like a mixing desk...

sure, but I couldn't find anything which makes this mixer more of an instrument than other mixers. am I missing the point?

well, to me an instrument MAKES sound, it doesn't just proceed it.

Live MAKES sound.
the mixing desk it's plugged to doesn't.

midi controller....mixer....on board processing....fw interface.
that is an actual, portable console.
with faders, knobs, buttons...decent looking build, too...
i don't think anyone else has really done this, outside of that maven thing.
if so, i'd love to see it because i've been looking for a few years now...

you can use the console to generate noise loops quite easily.
route the effects processor which is built-in so that it feeds signal back into itself.
viola! sound generation. say you use a delay to do this...tweak the delay time
(you now have a modulation)....

i guess you can find some sound generator a little more versatile in this price range.

i understand what you mean, but calling that an instrument is more of a marketing thing than a fact. imo.

you don't think dub is using the desk/electronic enviornment as an instrument?

NO, i don't agree

anyway, i wikied it
A musical instrument is a device constructed or modified with the purpose of making music. In principle, anything that produces sound, and can somehow be controlled by a musician, can serve as a musical instrument. The expression, however, is reserved generally to items that have a specific musical purpose. The academic study of musical instruments is called organology.

i don't know what to think, but i'll stop hijacking the thread.

this korg controller is a nice device anyway
a bit too bulky for transport though.

xone 3d?
my thoughts exactly, I got the 3D last year but honestly, the zero 8 has got me contemplating a trade in. I would love to hear a hands on comparison/review if anyone has had a chance.

xone 3d is close but i just need the mixing desk type interface,
no need for the dj stuff, although i like the x-fader because its' standard in live.
