I use the video feature a lot and was so glad when it was added in L6.
Just recently used it VJamm style for a gig.
The fact that you can warp video is genius.
warped some out of time footage and was able to jam it alongside my tracks.
here's a tip:
once the video is warped,
set markers along a video clip of scenes you want to launch.
you can keep the original audio, or place some of your own under it.
midi map each marker.
set global quantise to "none"
drag video screen to ext monitor (or to projector).
hit play, and VJamm the video
(because of the global quantise being set to "none" you can play realtime"
I had about 9 video clips arranged out in one Live set with a bunch of markers mapped to 7octaves of my keyboard.
What I like about Live is that they don't even have to be on the same track, so you're able to effect and set levels of each video clip.
they don't even have to be right next to each other, so you can space them out.
I also automated different tempos for each video to match.
I'm blown away that a music program can be so innovative for video purposes.
hats off to you guys at Ableton!

I have done a lot of video stuff with my alternative rock band LiQuid Metamorphosis (mostly fusing together film and stills from public domain clips) http://www.youtube.com/user/LiQuidMetamorphosis , but nothing so far with my electronic stuff (Umbriel Rising).
I have played with Live's video functionality, it's not too bad in Live 7. However, I tend to put video to music using Sony Vegas, just because it's super easy, allows loads of different file formats and not just .mov files like Live and I have been familiar with the program for 5 years.

The real drag is I was working on a movie soundtrack before Live did video. I bounced back and forth between and Digital Performer and I kept wishing Live did video.
By the time it was added, I was done, and I've never needed it again.

i thought about making a lame joke about how you should change mike's location to THEN, but i guess that's kinda moot... evon, his post count ain't shit, timur/crash, in a period of a few months racked up @3000, i think tone gets about 500 a month hell, i ain't no better-i really started posting a year ago... we're teh lam interweb g33kz.mike holiday wrote:evon wrote:hey doc how did you manage to score so many posts?doc holiday wrote:live does video?
maybe someones jacking my account?
i used video once because we recorded "happy birthday" for my father-in-law, using imovie and the built in camera on wifey's mb... i had used the '06 version of imovie before, it was extremely easy to get around. this time, i tried the '07 version, fuck me running, apple really dropped the ball, and made the program retarded. i just recorded the video in imovie, and the audio in live, and used live to sync and render the video... i would use live's video more if i could record using the webcam, for similar tasks, maybe with m4l i can whack something together. i'd like to use the function more, tbh.

timur racked up 3000 posts a month, but 2998 of them just duplicated the rant of the first 2 (joking - or AM I, mwahahahaha !)

well, soon, when you pass forge, it will be impolite to mention your post count (according to forge), gotta get my jabs in now...Tone Deft wrote:fuck you.dcease wrote:i think tone gets about 500 a month
it's only 450 a month.
even with the old nick, you still can't touch forge, and that's not including his alternicks...
