Fat compression plug-ins

Post by Pantytec » Thu Apr 12, 2007 12:13 am

What do you guys recommend for thick and heavy compression plug-ins
for super thick basslines for Minimal? wooooOOOOMPHH. Does Urei
make one, or was one developed to mock it up? Are the Waves decent?

The Ableton one is "ok", at best.

^ Great info, yes theres definitely a few free gems out there floating for PC in the preamp/tube area. Heres two more. The second of which (obviously all UAD etc aside) kills voxengos "lampthruster" in the Preamp department yet its free.

^ Nice on snares and mids/highs, put before anything else in chain.

Yep the Tubedriver is a real gem - even more so that the earlier versions also had a different colour...another interesting plug is this: http://www.michaelkingston.fi/retroband/

Camel Phat

Post by James Cater » Thu Apr 12, 2007 1:15 pm

We've just used this on our latest release.

http://www.camelaudio.com/camelphat.php

Transformed the kick drum.

Also great for adding harmonics + mild distortion to vocal + sax + instrumentation.

when used correctly it can be the difference between a normal mix and "that sound"

I belive it's similar to the plug in integrated into Apple Logic.

Enjoy !

Also try the free little brother, camelcrusher. Simple compressor, but rediculously pumping.

I was about to buy camelphat after falling in love with camelcrusher, but when I demoed it, i discovered that the compressor had a slightly different quality and after A/B ing the two, realized I couldn't get the same sound out of camelphat that I found in camelcrusher. So I just stuck with that. Nice overdrive too.
