to make a track?

I have noticed that my best work usually takes no time at all - 2-3 days to get the track done.

One track i even did in 5 hours, thats when i was in the 'zone' so to speak. when creativity comes it really flows out of you and you dont even notice until a few months later and then go 'wow' how did i do that!

I also find that the longer i spend on a drum pattern, synth line etc, the more likley i am to delete it, i need to work fast, fast, fast! becasue i get bored really easily when hearing one 'sound' or 'pattern'.

anyone else here have similar methods?

between 6-8 hours, i like to work as quick as i can. any longer than a day and i lose interest. Finding days when you can work 8 hours without interuption is pretty hard though. each to his own though. I have a mate who spends 8 hours tweaking a bass sound to make it sound right.

I know what you mean about being in the creative "zone", I've found that my best tracks usually "write themselves" and I can have all the arrangement done in an afternoon.

Post production takes me bloody ages though

I definitely work the same way - hence my fetish for step sequencers

my best tracks take about 4-6 hours, while some good ones are done in real-time.

i managed to knock one up in 2 hours yesterday from a 2x 1 bar loops i made last week!

i was well impressed with the outcome too!

One track took 2 hours, another took 10 hours, another took 2 days, another took 6 months.
I'm that guy who will tweak things to get them perfect.

I've only had one track mastered before, and that took about 4 hours.

the tracks i'm finishing right now are 2 years old, and have been constantly worked on during this period...

not to say that i'm a bit tired of them now, but the end is close! (monday actually)

ive finished stuff in under 2 hours -- others have taken me weeks...it depends on what kind of mindset your in i think more than anything else...

sometimes if you cant get a song to a place you like, its better to just chuck it and start over

it's also funny to me, the simplest stuff i spend the least amount of time on i end up liking the most

woah, that must mean that making an album for you would take, what, over a year? I'd be totally sick of listening to it after just a few months, for sure. I really admire your patience!

For me i normally write the core of my songs in anywhere from 1 to 2 hours
then spend weeks tweeking and re-working it, but to keep from going crazy working on one song i normally work on 4 songs at a time when i come to a dead end on one i open the next.
