To understand it you have to really understand the difference between Analog sound vs. digital sound.

Try this...

ok seriously, about aliasing...one of the biggest selling points of Toxic is that "all oscillators are completely free of aliasing". However, Toxic doesn't sound as "warm" as Sytrus or Operator or Zero Vector. It sounds "thin" to me.

rikhyray wrote:"Warm" is saying something while actually saying nothing, often used by manufacturers but also very diplomatic expression- someone asks you how "does it sound", it sucks, but you dont want to hurt anyones feeling then "sounds warm" will work, you don't lie and you dont antagonise, "interesting" is another good expression.
I find "thin" much more powerful, the most abusing word in this industry, it does not says much, difficult to challange , but it hurts badly and can be applied to anything hardware, software, song, mix, band, voice.....
'Warm' is a specific sound characteristic. As is 'thin', as matter of fact. 'Interesting' is matter of opinion.

If you said I was thin, I'd give you a big hug.
I said this>music industry but in normal life it is exactly opposite, you cant go wrong while meeting your ex and saying "oh, you got weight"

Warmth has nothing to do with digital or analogue. Warmth can be created entirely digitally, it's just more easily associated with the sound of things like tubes. I own a lot of CDs that sound warm. I own a lot of 12"s that sound cold and digital.

I realize now that if we dated and broke up, I'd have to kill you slowly and painfully.

Warm : A meaningless catch word used by musicians and/or producers to drive mixing engineers completely batshit crazy.

Warm [wawrm]: a marketing-hype buzzword used to sell lots of unnecessary vacuum tubes.

Often used to create the false illusion that a glowing orange color indicates generation of said desirable 'warm' sound.

I think Machinate presented the best objective description of a terribly subjective word.

How do you define beautiful?

Music is art, art is subjective.

This debate will take us nowhere....

Might as well do your mixdown looking at the Screen with your speakers turned off.

Harmonic distortion.
Which has nothing to do with 'common' distortion.
