i use mine all the time live. running multiple ins-outs with no issues. it has been a solid piece of equipment for me.
i feel like i got a good deal and that was even before they dropped the price $100.

Only gripe is using the firebox with the AC to power it up (stupid firewire problems w/ macbook pros) but otherwise, yeah, its a great little box for the price I paid AU$580).

i boguht the firebox. everything seems to be working fine. i even don't seem to have problems with buspowering, but i have to check this out further...
the only thing that would have been handy is a on-off knob... now you have to pull the netadapter out...

I've used mine, and It works. just make sure your settings are saved, and you don't open up your sets with out it hooked up to the computer. ( I hand a panic on stage setting up, but it was a user error). Had 4 mics and 2 outs and midi, and then 2 other usb midi interfaces all going trough the laptop playing live and triggering live all at once with three people. We were a band in the box

thats actually not a problem but a feature.. the voltage steps up so as not to drag a bunch of power and blow something. I have had my $1000 Tascam control desk fry the firewire ports in it due to this sort of thing so I for one was glad that Apple decided to put this saftey feature in place. Sure it is a pain but it is better than loosing a firewire port on your system either in the computer or in the firebox. Some people actually use a batter to start it up I have seen lots of firewire ports fry things and at $500 to fix the Tascam i was not to happymechcon wrote:Only gripe is using the firebox with the AC to power it up (stupid firewire problems w/ macbook pros) but otherwise, yeah, its a great little box for the price I paid AU$580).

Re: firebox for live use?
i've used mine live a lot with no problems.
however i'm running into SERIOUS problems producing with it. it's a combination of a slightly older macbook updated to mavericks and i'm starting to write some very complex songs. lately even when my project is at the medium stage of size and complexity i'll start getting these DROPOUT HELL moments where i am forced to re-init my firebox (disabling and re-enabling via ableton). they usually follow a moment of heavier processing (changing a track or triggering some simultaneous midi notes). when it happens it degrades to permanent dropout mode until i re-enable.
lately it's been happening with startling frequency and often takes about 30 seconds for the process to complete. 10 times an hour is a lot of creative interruption. sadly, i'm sure the solution is going to be buying something better than this old junk. probably getting a new computer too.
point is - i wouldn't recommend the firebox anymore - unless you only plan to work with audio.
