How to reduce the cpu!!

Hi, I'm new to ableton and am having some probs with my sytem slowing down when i've re-wired ableton to reason. Other programmes work well (Cubase + Reason) and don't seem to be cpu hungry. Is it just that ableton's tools and effets Etc are very cpu hungry? Can i reduce the cpu in some way or form. My sytem plays back smoothly, until i add loads of effects and stuff, but in cubase + reason it seems to be fine when i add loads of stuff? Any help would be most appreciated as this ableton business is the MUTTS NUTTS and i need to get creative!

My system is a P4 2.2ghz with 1.5gb ram

Use the freeze function! For midi-tracks route them to an audio track and record it. Then freeze it. You can still alter some parameters when frozen and you can always un-freeze.

try placing your mac on the floor instead of a desk

the increased proximity to the centre of the earth leads to a slight reduction of centrifugal forces acting on the cpu, thus reducing potential energy within it's circuits allowing the electrons to move at Warp Speed (on the desk they're probably moving at about 99.9999% Warp 1)

this amazingly gives great results - no more freezing for me!

btw, placing your mac in the cellar (if you've got one) gives even better results.

Thanks pal i will give that link a try and hopefully get things going smoothly. Not sure what monoschall is on about with all this warp speed and electrons!! Think he may have had too many sherberts!!!

To reduce the CPU you could try putting it in a vice
