Taking Ableton Live Back to the store
Taking Ableton Live Back to the store
My first night with Ableton... *Sighing* and I like it. It's not cutting it on my laptop though guys. On my laptop it stutter's and it's slow as hell. Again here's the laptop I have, http://www.uberbargain.com/archives/200 ... 03wlci.php
i have it maxed at 2 GB's and it still struggles. Ableton is a CPU hog. I might take it back. I don't know what to do. Now more money to spend on a desktop. This is ridiculous.... The latency/midi delay problem. Reason and Fruity Loops are more user friendly and take up way less CPU Power. I might send this back to Ableton to get my money back. Maybe it's my laptop? I do like 8 midi tracks using Albino 3 and my laptop freezes. I optimized Windows XP. I have delay compensation on. I downloaded new ASIO drivers. What to do....

IMO Ableton is not the most resourceful when it comes to CPU... but... Albino 3 is one of the hungriest synths I own. I rarely use it because of this. I find it similar to NI's Massive in CPU consumption.
What sample/bit rates are you working at?
I say the problem is not Ableton so much as Albino. Or not so much Ableton or Albino as much as a $600 dollar laptop. I'm sorry... I understand you may not have loads of money to spend on a computer... but if you are serious about making music on the computer my recommendation would be to buy a computer thats up to the task.

also get ashampoo win optimizer demo. GO into the tuners and click the start up tuner. Stop all the Bloatware from poppong on start up and restart your PC. you might be amazed at the difference.
Computer games don't effect kids... If Pacman affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music

What they said. 8 tracks of Albino3? Why for?
Freeze is your friend.
What ASIO drivers are you using? Have you tried www.asio4all.com?

I have a problem with NI bandstand slowing me down, and crashing once I hit 12 instances. Massive will do the same thing.
Freeze my friend, and not the bad Arnold Schwart. roll in Bat Man either.

in the states, you cannot return software, once it is open.

+18 for freeze tracks
And I'm not a Reason hater or lover but I am always amazed when somebody says it's user friendly. As somebody who has used sequencers before there was even hard disk recording I have attempted to use Reason several times and I just didn't get it or maybe just didn't find the work flow very inspiring. It just seems like an overly complex loop making machine.

wow I agree, I have it and I ended up using it with a patch to unpack refills, and use em in live

if you've ever used racks of hardware, then Reason is the easiest to figure out. If you started in Fruity Loops or Acid, then Reason will seem awkward.darkcatt wrote:beats me wrote:+18 for freeze tracks

To the original poster, use Reason for 80% of what you do, then use Albino for the sounds that Reason cannot really pull off. That way you can use a cheap laptop, and work with Live. Live is much better than Reason for arranging I think....
