I just bought the new Hilary Duff album. There's a couple old school eletro sounding songs on it. 8O

I think there is nothing wrong with studying the production quality of various artists.....
I always buy Madonna albums just to hear what a "heavy weight" like her is using for production inspiration and sound.
Now if your wearing nothing but fur, drinking orange mocha frapachino's listening to the album, pulling a handsome boy modeling school.........maybe I'd not stay for that kind of a party. (no offense intended to any body, just using a metaphor)

Why care about what anyone else thinks about what you listen to? It reeks of insecurity.

Be yourself, listen to what you want to listen to, and enjoy it! I couldn't give a damn what anyone else thinks about my musical taste.

Lately I've just been really disenchanted with purely underground electronic music. There's just too much of it out there and I think my ears and brain need to take a break. Maybe it's time for some Simon and Garfunkel or something to that effect.

Maybe it's time for a roots check. S&G are simply amazing, there are two CD sets out there with nearly all their work for $20-$30, I ended up with both over the years.

I daily listen to a "singer songwriter" of some sort......Joan baez, dylan, simon garfunkel( scarlett....a personal fav), 60's 70's....to get the synthesis of the "song feel"
coupled with DISCO (bee gees and such) for the "beat feel" and "pocket"
But a great electronic artist (postford, or who ever) always captures my heart with 21st century music production.
My job is to take it all and stay inspired.

You're cheating. How could you possibly be embarrassed by admitting to listening to Tool, Kraftwerk, Grandmaster Flash, or the Chemical Brothers? and the other three have all been produced by Quincy Jones at some point.

you're absolutely right im not embarrassed but i kind of got the feeling the thread started to be a little about the things we use to calibrate our ears to what we percieve is quality work out there.
