I'm using my fcb1010 with mackie control emulation. So far it is working great, I just wish I could arm the selected track instead of having to have either the tracks pre-armed or by having to dedicate several foot switches to arming individual tracks. For the most part, figuring this set up has been a quantum leap for me...now I just gotta master using BOMES and all those other midi tools...
I have also read up on some cool programs that will let you use your tablet as a midi controller. Some of them allow you to set up a few control surfaces on one tablet. Kinda cool. I'm also tooling around with setting up joysticks as midi controllers. But so far, the fcb1010 has been the one that fits best for my performing habits, allowing me to keep my hands free to play my guitar and drum pads.

A trackball works great for me. It's velcroed into my console, and just feels 'right'. No chasing it around, no RSI, and the multiple assignable buttons are really useful.

I tried the more expensive ones, but found this one to be every bit as good.
Like I said, it DOES take a bit of getting used to, but once you do, you'll never go back to a mouse.
