Nearly 40 and this track has really grabbed my interest !!

Post by Oscar F » Fri Aug 24, 2007 12:24 pm

Wow I was so impressed by this I went and bought a couple of Flanger CD's (Aka AtomHeart and Burnt Friedman) today and I haven't been disappointed.
I love it when I can hear something that totally blows me away even at my age.
Much like Murcof's "Remembranza" and Nine Horses "Snow Borne Sorrow"
I bought Flangers "Spirituals", "Templates" and "Midnight Sounds" and can't believe Midnight Sounds and Templates are from 1997 and 1999 respectively.
Some truly mind blowing stuff that sounds way ahead of it's time even now.
Also been digging an awful lot of Tortoise and PorcupineTree as of late.

Anyway here is a rather fantastic little Youtube clip for Flanger's - Options in the Fire (and yes this was written and released 10 years ago ) !!!!!!! 8O

Would be considered pretty ballsy even for a current day release by my standards.
Enjoy or Not and Comment/Discuss at Will :D .
Great Stuff None The Less :) .
Nice too know there is still decent and fresh music out there.
Somewhere between a rock and a hard place is actually nowhere.

Those have been 2 of my favourite albums for years now, I've lost count of the number of copies of Templates I've given away only to have to go and buy it again. Awesome how the 1st album is really 'artificial' with bits of sweet, natural loveliness poking through and the 2nd is just the opposite. Supremely good. If you're ever on more of an electro (as in 808 booms, noisy snares, lino) tip, don't miss Atom™'s Stereonerds cd, pure electro quality. The man knows sound. Oh and Roger Tubesound Quartet...and..and..can you tell I'm a fan?

i'm 30 and i'm feeling pretty damn jaded.

for example, i think if i were 20, i would looove Ed Banger et. al.

but now, it's just kindof "eh?"

however, more on topic -- YES! atom heart is plenty rad.

the 90's was a good time for rad digital jazzbo's. ppl like nonplace urban field, spacer, to rococo rot ... hmmm i'm sure there are lots others

I'm in love with Standards. Some of the sounds on that bring me back to my Amiga 500 daze.

Hell yeah! When I discovered Flanger I was totally blown away! Such a musical and intelligent merging of Jazz and Electronic glitch/drill n bass styles. Much more organic and interesting than the programmed Squarepusher stuff.
It's sad that they are not well known.

I don't know of any other albums of this quality!
Win XP Pro SP3, Live 7
Q9450@3.2Ghz, 4 GB RAM,
BCF2000, M-Audio Audiophile 2496, Mindprint TRIO

Flanger sounded good. Thanks for the rec.

I love me some Tortoise. Fortunately, I get to see them live about twice a year here. They just scheduled a date for the Symphony Center too (FYI Chitown residents), which will be tits!
