Gang Starr, Group Home, Scarface, Afu Ra, and Big Shug bumping at my desk and in my Jeep lately.

yeah I know, I'm stuck in the past, but some shit never gets old. Specially Gang Starr. I've got the entire discography and I swear I never get tired of it.

On the new school tip, I revisited Dabrye the other day, One/Three and Two/Three. Both great albums.

I've been in the Bay Area for less than a two years, and although I don't get down with that hyphy stuff (except E-40 - I Got My Plastic Cup!), here are a few that do the Bay justice:

The Coup - especially Genocide and Juice
Almost anything from the Anticon label, if you can consider it hiphop (Sage Francis, Sole, and I LOVE Why?, but that's a stretch for hiphop).
Bumbalo - check it out. Very up and coming. He's actually the cousin of my former roommate, although I doubt he'd remember me now. You can find it on iTunes. Preview Cali 4 Ya. It's supposedly in that new movie "Hotrod".

Also

Awol One
Aesop Rock
Anything produced by Aceyalone (although the newer tracks where he MCs are less satisfying).
The newest Myka Nyne.
The Breakfast track by Z-Trip (not new)

and the list goes on...

yap, Common is really cool dude. considering that he's in Kanye West's crew, he's still making really good music. same goes to Lupe Fiasco. check him out as well. don't let his often appearance at MTV to fool you.

Innercity Griots changed my life! Ok, a little dramatic, but damn that albums hot. Yeah, Haiku D'Etat is sick too.

Check out the Good Brothers - not to be missed. And Calicomm. What could make Ace1, M9 and AbRude better than Del and Zion I

Tone Deft: Aren't you in the Mission? Did you check out that Aceyalone/RJD2 show about a year ago at the Independent? I think that watching RJD2 on his MPC and then stepping in front of the mic on an acoustic guitar is what really got me interested in creating my own music.
