I'm putting together a new PC & would appreciate your advice on a few things...
1 I'm going for the Intel Quad Core Extreme QX6850 3GHz processor, can anyone recommend a motherboard to me?! There are so many to choose from!
2 I've heard to get the best out of a quad core processor you should have 1333MHz DDR3 RAM... Should I get this type or will the 4GB DDR2 800MHz Samsung RAM I already have work just fine?!
3 For my system drive, is it worth getting a hard drive with a lower capacity that runs at 10,000RPM or 15,000RPM? (With all my data and main content on other hard drives running at 7,200RPM.)
4 I've got a hefty budget for this PC, is there anything you could recommend to me? (I'll be using this computer to run Live 6 with dozens of plug-ins)
* Please don't recommend I get a Mac Pro! I just sent one back, an 8-core 3GHz with 8GB of RAM. I forgot how much I dislike the Mac OS & XP in Bootcamp didn't work properly - & it only recognised 2GB of RAM!
Buying components for new PC & need your expert advice!!
Where? Show me the link...
No one else made the "exact" same thread as me you muppet. I wouldn't have asked any of these questions if the answers relevant to me were already archived.
Your reply is completely pointless. Being an attorney, you'd think you'd be helpful and give advice. Obviously not.
Can anyone help me out or am I limited to the wisdom of Mr Wisenheimer?
Where's Machinate?!

I would stick with your DDR2 800. I would not get the QX6850, get a good mobo and oc a Q6600 to 3 GHz on a good aftermarket HSF. Will save you a lot of money which you could use for some new plugs or beer.
There are no 15K RPM SATA drives (unless they came out in the last week or so) and even the 10K RPM IMO are not worth it.

Thanks for the advice Nagal, it's much appreciated - & it's probably saved me a fortune! How come the quad-core processor I mentioned is £600 (www.dabs.co.uk) and the one you mentioned is £170?! There doesn't seem to be that big a difference between the two! Thanks again.
