Dynaudio bm5a vs Genelec 8030a

Has anyone had a chance to a/b them?

Dynaudio seems to be the favourite after a few hours of reading. I will audition the bm6a's vs genelec 8020 tomorrow.. the place doesn't have 8030 or bm5a's in so i'll have to take my chances.

The BM6a is much better than the BM5a, so don't expect the BM5 to sound as good.

On the other hand, the 8020 sounds very similar to the 8030.

I'd rather have BM6a than 8030s.

I'd rather have 8020 than BM5a.

I'm interested too in:

Genelec 8040a vs Dynaudio BM6a

Particularly which has better bass response for dance music

That's really weird...
Other people say the bm5a is identical to bm6a until bm6a is turned up a bit, and bm5a lacks a bit of bass response.
I guess I have to wait until I can listen myself.

i was looking at dynaudios vs genelecs a while back.
i couldn't a/b as such (the Dynaudio BM6a's were being sold by a guy two days apart and fifteen miles apart from the Guy selling 1030a's and the 1031a's) but in my humble opinion:

the Genelec 1030a's I loved because they were so clinical. By that I mean they sounded really crisp. they were very strong in the low mid's so my kick drums on the test track sounded hard and tight.
played the same track on the BM6a's and it all sounded way smoother. but the stereo imaging wasn't as pronounced and I couldn't pinpoint upper mid range frequencies so clearly,,but the bass response went way lower. they were also a bit less fatiguing on the ears.
when I heard the 1031's I really liked them they were like a combination of the two. they were really clear all the way up the spectrum, but still had a good (but not great) bass response. I bought the 1031's. I would say though that a friend of mine has the Mackie 824's and they are way bassier, and far easier to tune 808 kick drums on (for example) than the genelecs. The genelecs just aren't a bassy speaker. however I haven't got them in a properly dampened room so....
with hindsight - I'd probably get the 1030's and the accompanying sub.
Hope that helps. several of my muso mates don't like the genelecs, and some of them love them so its a matter of personal taste. I'd definitely recommend picking a test tune and then doing the legwork, if only so you can feel all smug about your final purchase,

I love my BM5A's very much, but I've never compared them to any other monitors. They do seem fairly crisp, but definitely clean and uncolored. I'd love to get the matching sub, but it is another grand. That money would be better spent improving my room first...

KRK VXT6 id recommend, not just because i have them..but i had a dilema just a wee while back about what to buy. My mate has 8030 Genelecs and while i thought they were good.....he hated em and got the new JBL room correction things.

I was all set to get the Dynaudio ones not long ago until some stores recomended these new KRK VXT ones, i think they are the bomb.

For the kind of budget ur looking to spend you will get a decent monitor anyway, whatever u go for....

Those Adam A7's are meant to be nice as well by the way

at low volumes, defenitely the 8020a are more then amazing... you really need to hear them to believe... if they play on low volumes, i guarantee you if they would stay behind a curtain... you would never tell there size... never!!

and about the initial question: 8030a all the way the whole 8000 series all the way, no matter what other monitor you would offer me!! at least for me!! just my opinion, never worked on anything which i love so much and get the mix results i am looking for...!!

But the bm5a's are getting such good reviews!! and I can't even a/b them with 8020's and people say there's a huge difference between bm5a's and bm6a's: is this true?

of course dynaudios are very good, no question about it... so it boils down to preference... [and dynos are my personal second choice, but that agin is just my opinion / experience nothing else...]

and yes there is a huge difference between the bm5a and the bm6a, they just have more juice if used in high volumes, just like the difference between 8020a and 30a / 40a... they obviously have more juice and bottom end...

and you will need it if you have a big control room...

Why ?

I'm leaning towards the 8040A I like a tight clean sound with punch. I understand the genelec's have this but what about the sub end for say Dubstep and the like?

ARgh , I'm really confused.

Tomorrow I'm going to A/B:

Dynaudio BM6a vs Genelec 8020a.

However the bm6a is out of my price range so I have to choose between bm5a or 8020a. I'm leaning towards bm5a because people say they have a faster learning curve and are more 'hi-fi' and i'll be using these to listen to music 90% of the time or to compose.
