While I first was shocked by how much Live 7 was, after reviewing the prices, I think that they are actually extremely fair and competitive.
For $339, you can get Operator, Sampler, Analog, Tension, Electric, AND drum machines. (Without Session Drums and EIC2)
The upgrade price for LIve 7 without those instruments is $119.
Basically, you get:
Operator
Sampler
Analog
Tension
Electric
Drum machines
For $220, or 36 bucks each! Nice. VERY Nice.

Well, for me as a EIC1 owner (Live 6 Box) to do the full upgrade is only 50$ less than Logic 8. I'll have to wait and see until its release to make a final determination on reasonableness though.

I can't figure out what kind of price break I get as a pre-existing owner of operator and sampler. Is it in my interest to sell these liscenses before upgrading from my boxed 6 with EIC?
Does owning operator and sampler give me a price reduction?

Can you log into your Ableton account and visit:

...?
You should have a custom pricing calculator there.

I'm sure they will do a big price breakdown a bit later on, it's just bug-checking time now.
there's going to be some sort of price break I'm sure.
add 25% then multiply by .875, subtract the number you first thought of ?

edit ,
wow, custom pricing calculator !

Thanks. I was looking at this but I was not sure how it was factoring the ownership of EIC, Operator and Sampler into the final price. When I get home I will look into this.
EDIT: Alright, $459 for an upgrade including new instruments an EIC. I will have to think about whether or not I need EIC.
Thanks! Can't wait to get home and test!

You get to download one.
Ableton’s engineers are hard
at work developing code that will allow our software to predict the future, but we don’t
anticipate having this available until at least the next major release.

I'm happy to see them not price down simply because Apple did with Logic. The fact is that Logic ain't Live, and Live ain't Logic. Live should use this opportunity to really distinguish itself and value itself well, while Logic de-values itself for the sake of moving hardware.
Sure we'd pay more, but really, would any of us who really use Live care to use a linear sequencer instead of Live?

If i upgrade to the Suite from live 6 i think i'm right in that i only get 20 euros off for already owning Sampler. I think that's a bit harsh. Other than that the pricing system looks good.

agreed that the bundles aren't well thought out...I would say a bundle for just the new instruments is better than lumping together the older instruments.
