Live 7's Missing Features?

Post by Kodama » Thu Oct 04, 2007 10:45 pm

It's cool that 7 has the slicer, side chain (although only in some effects) & drum map thing, but I sure hope it's more stable, because none of the things I was hoping for are there.

- No record automation to Session (what the F*CK?)

- No midi learn improvements

- Still only 8 knobs per rack

- No custom automaps

- Operator never got the features it was missing from Sampler (midi mod matrix, envelope curves, etc..)

- Track organization is introduced, but only for the drum rack?

- Better filter, but only for Analog, instead of for Operator, Sampler. Autofilter, etc..

- 128 Published parameters plugin limit (promised fix in V4)

Overall, I think it's a good enough upgrade to get, I just was REALLY hoping for midi learn and record automation to Session (since version 1).

What about you guys? What were you hoping for?

Tablet support. That's pretty much it for me.

What kind of MIDI Learn Features are you looking for?

Actually, the filter control is quite a bit smoother now, on all fronts.

what i quoted above and:

multiview- sends arranger to one monitor and session to the other. :?

single key commands

more customizable:viewing options for mutliple clips, track colors, etc.

new warp modes- better sounding and/or less CPU intensive.

impulse improvements?

Overall, there are some major improvements. I am still a bit unsure about the direction ableton has gone with their niche instruments. I am going to sit tight until I can beta test, but I do not see anything revolutionary about them except, in fact, they appear to be recycled programming to some extent. That puzzles me, but for some reason I do not think I see the whole picture just yet...

Hmm. I find a lot features I really need to finish productions in Live are still not there; mainly:

- Fades/crossfades

- Comping/multiple takes

- Track groups/Proper buses/Track folders/Clip groups

- No full merge of sets; can't even reorder return tracks

I've been using Live for about 4 years now and despite including some important improvements, this is by far the least exciting update for me personally.

Oh it looks the track folding works for Instrument racks also.

I wish it worked for audio effect racks in an audio track or for impulse by itself.

Normalize sample would have been nice.

I see that sampler didn't get zone editing for filter, etc...

Did Operator get anything at all?

Missing also:

Effects step sequencer (similar to Glitch).

Scratching/scrubbing instument/parameter.

Multi-cue points per track

THE EDIT BUTTON... (as far as I can tell).
15" PB 2.5 Ghz, 4 Gig RAM, 750 GB HD, Live 9 still no cue points or program change messages?!?. Doesn't do shit.

It's also kinda weird that there's no splines in automation yet.

It seems kinda weird that analog costs almost as much as Zebra and more than Twin?
