Why is fixing midi jitter a feature in 7 and not a fix in 6?

Post by Vertical » Fri Oct 05, 2007 7:31 pm

7 surely has it's share of new features, but the midi jitter timing improvement seems more like a bug fix to me. It should be included in an update of 6. Am I right?

They've had advice from NI to the contrary ;)

Not if fixing it required a reworking of Live's core MIDI handling.

Hmm.. good point. If so, then good for them for finally overhauling what was clearly a mess.

I couldn't be happier with this fix, I just really hope it works as claimed. who would think in 2007, we are hoping for a midi sequencer to actually record what we play...hahaha.

Have you actually seen the improvement?
So far I can't really tell that it got much better, maybe later betas will show it.

Does this mean it will now record a smooth automation curve instead of hundreds of square blocks? Do others have this problem?

Bump - any other beta testers willing to confirm an improvement?

does the new midi jitter fixes refer to recording midi (the midi delay issue) or in improving external hardware midi sync (the Live's drifting midi clock issue)?

most usb and firewire midi interfaces have dreadful jitter problems in any case. It's hard to see how software could make it much worse.

yes but there are known problems with Lives midi engine. perfectly independent of other system based issues.

Specifically the issues raised in this thread:

http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=52985

Is there a noticeable improvement in 7? ie: does it now record MIDI properly regardless of the status of the monitoring?

- Included presets do not yet cover all instrument and devices
there's one thing that wont be noticed yet

so the wording of that looks like it will address the 'record midi where you hear not where you play' issue?

if so then good news, i can finally go back to playing in unquantised again.

crosses fingers!

You guys should just hold on this..

I'm not so sure that the "jitter" improvements relate to that (goddamned) midi timing thread.
