LAME ABLETON LAME
brutha, slow down and help us help you...
Before 5.2, Live was for OS9. As of 5.2, Ableton charged $50 development fee to make it UB ready. It was an upgrade fee plain and simple. So let's not get caught up in the "greed" and other manifestations of your anger.
Where did you buy it, from who, and what version did you buy? Did you know that you were getting a version that was not UB? If so, you should be able to return it.

but you did buy a new Mac..Naakaala wrote:Fuck the fan boyism I refuse to pay another cent for something I spent enough money on already.
didn't you spent enough money on that previous Mac as well?
but you decided to upgrade to a Intel Mac; did you ask Apple if you could get it for free?
come on dude; 39 euro's is just a small fee for the invested development..
Ableton did not change protocol, Apple did.. blaim them..
Wow, this outrage is like a year and a half late. Many companies charged some nominal fee for UB upgrades, and many didn't. That the props didn't is very nice for them, but it doesn't really mean anything about either company in the scheme of things, except maybe that the props had better cashflow at the time (though who knows). And IIRC the $50 goes towards the charge for the live 6 upgrade, too.

A: You got a +$1000 computer for free, and you are upset a developer wants to charge you $50 because they had to rewrite their code for the new architecture???? Apple themselves charged $45 for Logic UB compatibility, and no, I did not get $45 off of the upgrade to Logic 8. Other companies did worse and simply did UB compatibility by having you pay for an entire upgrade.
B: The $50 is deducted from your upgrade to 6 like he said. Seeing as how Live 7 is just around the corner, I would think you might possibly want to jump ahead two upgrades for the price of one, and maybe split the cost.
C: Once again, you got a really expensive gift, and are sitting here calling people names because you have to pay the price of taking your girl out to dinner for I'm sure over 100 hours worth of work on the part of a relatively small company.
D: Clue, almost NOBODY gave away the upgrade to UB! Ableton at least give you a discount on future purchases for charging you.
E: You have to be a kid? maybe 19?
