If you're just starting all you need is ableton live. If you are serious about it and have the cash you'll want an audio interface (soundcard), a keyboard/controller (midi), and studio monitors...

Technically Ableton Live is all you would need and maybe a keyboard MIDI controller. I would just tool around with Live for awhile and then you will discover what else you might need as it comes along.

All you need is Live.

Live. Live. Live is all you need.

All together now:

More on Equipement

Post by liveforthefirsttime » Sat Oct 27, 2007 6:52 am

I am also new to ableton and have done some research on the intro items I need to get started. Currently, I have:
MacBook Pro (2GB Ram)
Ableton Live 6 Full Version
Midi Keyboard
Sony headphones set
Monitor(later)
about 200USD Mic set with Pop filter

If the above is correct(feel free to comment), then the only thing I don't have an idea about is the audio/midi interface. Can anyone recommend a good brand in the range of Usd 200. My assumption is that it will replace the use of the soundcard on the MacBook Pro.

Thanks for the help.

Grab yourself a Computer Music magazine,
it's filled with all sorts of intro. stuff and laid out for ez begginners.
also comes with plenty of usable (mostly entry level) software and samples.

this is just a recorded message, if you need another option please press 9 now.
