128 Triggers (+leds) for Live
Hello all,
Right now i'm building my first prototype, a board of 128 triggers. Nice and logicaly ordered for Live.
I'll be very proud to presend it to you in a couple of weeks from now!
Not everyone is aware about this, but hereby a new musical instrument will be born.
Very intuitive, creative and fast to use. Using best of both the Digital and analog worlds.
And it's just for that analoge feel where we need the clip status feedback.
Clip status feedback, what is that?
Well, every trigger/button get's it's own led, indicating the current status of the clip. If the clip is running or not.
Hopefuly Live will be equiped with the feature of giving feedback to the controler.
Something else, i'm looking for those nice soft gummie buttons, like on the Korg ElecTribe's, does anyone know where i can get those alike buttons?

yeah, im working on a proto controller myself for live--the big kink for me, as well, is getting that LED functionality in order.
mine is set up like this:

the idea is that the alpha knobs are more or less hardwired to their functions (like pan, fx send, etc...) the beta knobs have toggle switches to switch them from one function to another on the fly, and these are intended to be dynamically assigned to functions as you go along--eg FX parameters.
the complexity, though, comes in because the beta knobs are on two different "toggle busses". thus the functions of the top two beta rows can be instantaneously altered while the bottom two rows remain unaltered. this allows for MUCH more flexibility...

question for users out there:
do you prefer controllers that are more generalized, or ones that limit your options to some extent? why?
personally i prefer controllers that are as generalized as possible, with a few small touches to deepen the functionality and intuitiveness of the interface. things should also exist in equal amounts, and they should be physically arranged so that they correspond in a logical manner.
i think this is an exciting new area that is nowhere near explored yet.

still working out some design issues...like whether or not the unit should be able to augment the behaviour of itself. (for example, a "hold" function on the buttons)

(to get an offset of 64, remove on the solder side the bridge to pin 13 of the PIC)

Everyone can predict what each knobs will do, in this way it's very simple to use.
