[ot] I think I might be getting back into metal

Yeah, so, I was really big on new metal back when it was new, like Deftones and the first Slipknot album... and esp. british bands, Earthtone9, lostprophets, Zero Cipher, that one Fallen To track that wasn't actually shite.. I also used to 'dig the shit out of' Pantera. So really, I liked my groovy stuff, a bit on the shouty side. Then I grew up enough to get me some Steve Reich discs and went from thereon into up-its-own-arse techno and such... leaving the head banging and the screaming behind.

Anyways, five years on, I think I might be getting back into it all, maybe as a side effect of loving guitar playing again... So what are the must-buy groovy metal albums released since early 2003?

Also, you may use this thread to write "HAHA YOU LIKED SLIPKNOT" cos err... I did. Masks and all.

Metal, love the old stuff (Maiden, Metallica, etc)

For the new stuff the last Tool album is a MUST!! Opeth f***ing rock and the last few albums of their have been amazing (Blackwater Park onwards) - absolute perfection in prog meets the heavy shit. Sadness Will Prevail by the band Today is the Day is an amazing, out-there experience - one of my personal faves. Also Terria by Devin Townsend, mind you, ANYTHING by Devin Townsend.

I'm sure I'll get crap for this, but Gorgoroths last album is really really good IMO. Too bad they are breaking up.

AH! Completely forgot about Devin! A friend used to be a big fan and played it for me all the fucking time but for some reason I never bought the albums. Devin's awesome! I think that might be the top of the shopping list..

Haven't heard that, but I do have "Point Blank" by NailBomb. Great metal album in my opinion.

ill nino, all the remains,Nonpoint, nothingface, Disturbed, killswitch engage, drowning pool <---all these bands are A+ if you like melodic heavy metal nothing like hatebreed, i hate hatebreed. Are any of these brit bands melodic? I cant stand someguy who cant play guitar with his distorto pedal turned all the way up with some guy who cant sing growling like satan behind him.

Slipknot is sick. i saw them at their first show at house of blues in orlando way back and they killed. slipknot is still coming out with quality material at a decent pace, given theyve changed their sound but its still good.

LOL, not too sure what most of the uk bands are like tbh - I've not been as into it for the past 3-4 years as I once was, so I've probably missed a hell of a lot. I do know theres a lot of uk bands that take their cue from the US ones which is a bit of a shame as it would be cool if there was more of a UK inspired scene.

Endurance of Hate. Theres a shouty metal band for ya, I kind of know the fella who plays guitar from the Guitarist Mag forums - REALLY cool bloke, and fr a shouty band I find them quite listenable. :D I think they're cutting a cd, or distribute their own already - they have a page on myspace if you can find them.
