Ram / Hard disk

I use Logic on Mac for composing, and I'm planning to adapt my songs for Live-act on Live.
I'm really concerned about not crashing the system during playing a live performance.
Here is my question:
Is it also recommended for live to put all samples and songs in a separate hard drive, i.e Firewire, like for Logic ? Or is it more important to allow the maximum RAM memory possible.
Please help !
