Is it just me or does Battery suck?

Post by lis102trants » Fri Nov 23, 2007 1:01 am

I've always had a hell of a time finding the right samples on Battery, mainly because it takes so long to load each individual sample, not to mention arranging them in a playable fashion. Maybe I'm not putting enough time into learning the program, but I find Logic's drumsets much more playable. Their samples not only sound better, but the hi-hats are always in the same place, etc. Does anyone else feel this way? I feel like I've been ripped off by NI.. BTW How does Ableton's drum machines stack up to this situation?

i can't say how live compares to battery or logic in terms of its drums but i can tell you it pisses over fruity loops for whatever that is worth.

to be honest it's pretty fucking sweet in my humblest of humble opinions.

It's you.

Haven't a clue what you mean about slow load times - my Battery loads sounds in about half a millisecond.

Battery 3 sucked bad for me. And it continues to suck badly enough that yet another update is scheduled, though who knows how long it'll take. So it's been out almost two years and still doesn't work properly...

I'm much happier with Guru, personally.

I think the samples in Battery 3 are awesome myself, but the app is buggy as hell for sure. NI could rule the softsynth world if they just released stable products and MUCH, MUCH more timely updates. Especially when their updates don't actually fix confirmed bugs.

I sold Battery 3, but kept copies of the samples too.

I'm gonna "rationalize it" sometime because I can't be bothered to surf thru 1000 open hihats everytime I look for a sample... they are nice but they are waaaaay to much for me, i need to clean up.

so i guess we can all come into agreement that the progrm sucks but the sound library is the dealbreaker?

That would be a no from me,,,
But then i've been using it since version 1 and so i'm reasonably familiar with the samples,,
Beyond that though,, i pretty much use the same base samples every time and have them loaded into a user kit mapped how i like it,, same way as BFD as it happens,,
I can then swap out kicks,, snares,, hats,, what ever as i need but retain the same mapping,,,

I will be using Battery alot, did not dig deep into it yet and noticed no bugs yet. What should I be on the lookout for?
Their samples not only sound better, but the hi-hats are always in the same place,
Battery's samples often sound unprocessed, it's more like if you had recorded a drumset and still have to process them to fit your mix. Actually that's quite good for non-electronic musicians, cause they need to be able to do that. Concerning the layout of presets I have zipped through alot of them and the layout seems quite consistent. Kick, Snares, Hihats, Toms, Crashes are usualy set to the same notes. The special kits (like multi-mic, multi-stick and the really big ones) use different layouts, but I don't see a way to do it different anyway.

I think Battery 2 was much better.. but there's no UB Version of it available, pretty lame.
