Addictive Drums 1.1 + Retro AD Pak!

Post by R.J.Dubya » Tue Dec 04, 2007 2:52 pm

Oh ya!

http://www.xlnaudio.com/

Best software I've ever purchased. And the cowbell is now 'Xtra" with other percussion options.

Also the Retro pak looks awesome. John Bonham Kit here I come....

I love Addictive Drums but I found their MIDI patterns extremely limited. There's like a million fills and maybe 40 usuable main beats.

I'm happy they are adding an expansion pack since other similar "real" drum emulators seem to have a lot more to offer in that area. Do you know how much it costs?

Not sure yet. Also, I haven't heard how much space it will take up. I'm not expecting it to be very big though, given that AD itself is only about 2gb. (Which is one of my favorite things about it).

I found the retro pak on a site for $150. I think that is a little steep considering you are just getting 3 drum kits and it says something like 1,000 MIDI patterns, but if 990 of them are breaks or fills then I am not going to be all that excited. Sure, fills are best performed by real drummers and translated to MIDI but so are main beats.

$150 is a bit steep, but then AD isn't exactly cheap either...it's like a hundred bucks more than EZD. I don't see any mention of jazzy brushes, which was what they promised in the update. I might be a tad disapointed here...

It's true, 150 is a bit steep. I was expecting more like 80 bucks actually. hmm.

Well i got the link to work
and i am dissapointed, i realise they may have touched up the inside
but it is not much of an update, i would have hoped for the expansion
pack to be free! And whats the point of updating the cowbell slot
if we dont get a few xtra things to play with???
or am i missing something?

From what I've read, there will be more free updates with feature requests, but this was rushed out for Logic 8 multi-out compatibility.

Did you actually install the update? Are you saying there are no extra percussion types besides cowbell in the new 'xtra' section?

But I guess we should at least be excited that they opened the door for future expansion packs. Retro may not float our boat but who knows what is in the future.

They do need to drop the price below $150 though. That's kind of a slap in the face to the people who already chose Addictive Drums at a price that is higher than it's closest competition. I wonder how much of this cost is going to hire [insert big name drummer] who was involved and how much just the use of that name is going to sell product.
