is it worth it? can you basically run any combo of things and never choke your computer? Or is that a star trek dream.....

so it looks like the quadcore is a clear winner over the core2duo..

good to know, i was about to get a 3gig core2duo and overclock to 3.6 or 4.0ghz hopefully.. but i think i'll just go with the q6600 - same price, and they seem to o/c to 3.0ghz and dominate with the extra cores..

i haven't run into many problems yet on my MACPRO after they replaced the logic board that fried 4 brand new hard drives (read sarcasm on Apple products)

Basically you wont use 16 GBs on programs these days but having multiple programs open, multitasking it helps, but 16 GB is probably overkill.

The 2008 Macpro runs its memory at the fastest speed when all ram slots are filled. I would have put 8GBs in but they don't make dual channel 1GB sticks as far as I'm aware of.

I bought my RAM from Transinternational, and haven't had a problem since

PS I'm mainly into video editing (Final Cut Studio)

Latency wise XP Pro is a better OS for my Soundcard anyway (Fireface 400)

Prior to the 10.5.4 update I was registering 55% CPU usage in live so I noticed a drastic increase in performance with this update. Also note that I do not use coolbook either if anyone was wondering.

1.) Ableton Live CPU Meter % 72
2.) Laptop/Desktop? Make/Model? Apple MacBook Core Duo 2.0Ghz
3.) Operating System? Mac OS X 10.4.11
4.) Ableton Live version? 7.0.7
5.) CPU Make, Model, and Speed? 2 GHz Intel Core Duo
6.) Amount of Ram? 2 GB
7.) Soundcard (and driver version if you know it)? Saffire LE
8.) Hard Disk Drive Speed (if you know)? 5400 RPM
9.) Number of playback tracks? 6

I know my MacBook isn't the most recent version, sut still I'm quite disappointed with these results... I have set it for Better Performance and have plenty of HDD space. I tried disabling AirPort (had problems with it before), but the results are the same. Any hints on how to improve Live's performance on this MacBook?

That's the best you're going to get man, and it's not that bad at all, so don't be upset :) This test was meant to be hard on your computer.
