Filter to a single note?

Post by Beatport » Thu Dec 06, 2007 7:30 pm

Anyone know how to filter the entire key range to a particular note. I want every key to play C3 in Simpler. Or id there a way to keep Simpler from pitch shifting across the keyboard?

Don't have Live open at the moment - or even installed. But I think you could just use a scale plug and redirect all incoming notes to C. And then adjust the range to not move up/down on different octaves. Put the plug in front of your Simpler. Done.

...I think.

i've gotta ask -- why do you want to be able to do this? (i'm sure there's some fairly obvious circumstance in which this is useful, but i can't think of it.)

i don't think so. it only filters the note to that particular octave. playing g4 filters to C4. playing A2 filters to C2. unless I'm doing somrthing wrong.

Did you try limiting the "output range" or whatever it's called?

yeah, tried that. that just means it will only affect those notes which doesn't help me much.

i have a piezo pick-up that sends all note ranges bases on SPL. i just want it to play C3 every time it gets a pulse and sends it to Live.

The only thing I can think of is to do what Lo-Fi Massahkah sugested with the scale plugun but follow it with a midi rack containing a number of Pitch devices in parellel. like this:

Lowest:C-1, Range:+11, Pitch:+48
Lowest:C0, Range:+11, Pitch:+36
Lowest:C1, Range:+11, Pitch:+24
Lowest:C2, Range:+11, Pitch:+12
Lowest:C3, Range:+11, Pitch:0
Lowest:C4, Range:+11, Pitch:-12
Lowest:C5, Range:+11, Pitch:-24
Lowest:C6, Range:+11, Pitch:-36
Lowest:C7, Range:+11, Pitch:-48

If you need more than 7 octaves it get more complicated.

Does SImpler have a functon called "Keyboard Tracking"?

I don't think so... but on other samplers, that's what you click OFF to make it play the same sound on every key, rather than repitch.

I made a litte rack named “Fixed at C3″. The rack is named like that, because that is all that it does. It will remap any incoming note to C3. Which is the note that is required to let the Simpler play a sample at its original pitch.

So when I make a rack that is intended to be used for drum samples, I just stick one of these in front of the simpler.
But even that is tedious. Because once you made a chain with a Simpler and the “Fixed at C3″ rack, there is no need for you to ever make one again.

can't you use a 'midi rack' to only have one key that's active?

Or you could put a few scale plugins in series:

Or like this:

Set range, lowest note and transposition for each octave
