the johnisfaster 90's "thread-tape" of videos

Post by Johnisfaster » Tue Dec 11, 2007 8:09 am

has thread-tape been coined yet?

K's choice
http://youtube.com/watch?v=9MbbBYalam8
(heard this song in a bar the other day and it brought me back)

Liam Lynch
DAMN I POSTED THE WRONG LINK BEFORE.... SORRY.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=Xz7_3n7xyDg

:)

Failure
http://youtube.com/watch?v=_cntLoJ8nCs
(one of the most under rated bands of all time, get their second album if you can find it)

Sonic Youth
http://youtube.com/watch?v=0OdSoKfTP1k

Morrisey
http://youtube.com/watch?v=6nAMFWDuDEI

4 non blondes
http://youtube.com/watch?v=mXcQGsoDkDk
(awful video but the song is really fantastic)

Cracker
http://youtube.com/watch?v=jywZEjSiCBM
(always loved this song for some reason)

Folk Implosion
http://youtube.com/watch?v=8n14FhOcJbg
(simple magic, incredible that they never had another hit)

The Eels
http://youtube.com/watch?v=0sHj6V1lfek&feature=related

At the driveinn
http://youtube.com/watch?v=VdWHaKF1khs
(was that the 90's? who cares, in a way they were my last hope for rock music)

Beck (of course)
http://youtube.com/watch?v=TJN3PGqDRNg
(wouldn't be a complete thread-tape without him)

Harvey Danger
http://youtube.com/watch?v=1xzxDRA93Nk
(VERY under rated, I used to sing this full volume everywhere I drove)

XTC
http://youtube.com/watch?v=hk41Gbjljfo
(once again... was that the 90's?... don't care, jesus christ this song is amazing.... hehe.... jesus christ....... get it?)

NIN
http://youtube.com/watch?v=l0s5UOVsMDg
(what happened to trent? I miss him, I'm pretty sure he's dead and an alien is releasing work as him)

Hum
http://youtube.com/watch?v=Rfbn3ieVUYU
(fuck yeah, I had a poetry assignment in highschool and I turned in hum lyrics and I got a D on the assignment. later that day I hate carrot cake and fruit punch for lunch and took a nap on the school lawn with my backpack under my head)

more Hum
http://youtube.com/watch?v=egugSdWvHzc&feature=related
(another random thought, I just to fall asleep to this album after school every day. the first track on the album was the first time I can remember becoming aware of 6/8 timing in music. good memories)

Nirvana (come on now.. as if I was gonna leave them out)
http://youtube.com/watch?v=5KLWtUXp7qc

don't worry, theres more to come.

heyyyyyyy this was my thread-tape not yours!

:)

lovin all the music though. I spent quite a long time living my childhood last night for my list of songs up there. really took me back. I was very selective on what I shared cause I wanted it to be like a "mixtape"

thread-tape. can I coin that as my own? how do you coin a net term? (wiki?)

I think you'd have to have the term 'mix' in there, that's pretty essential, mixtape, mix CD, what about mixtube?

two criticisms...
1 - song flow, putting together a mix tape was always picking the songs them picking the right order and even throwing out songs that didn't fit the vibe. it's not just a collection of good songs.

2 - sound quality. if the song is good, that's cool but if you don't have (or can't find) a good sounding song, don't put it in the mix.

really cool idea though, an original idea like this is rare, kudos. listening through the first post now.

holy fuck, Folk Implosion, forgot about that tune, NICE!!

harvey danger - cool tune

NIN - "what happened to Trent"?? you're joking, right? he's still very much in the scene.

Hum - another super cool tune

very cool portisehead video, cool to see them LIVE!!
