I've had this problem for a while. When I listen to a file in the 'File Browser' tempo warping is being applied.. this makes it very difficult to hear how some of the files are meant to sound.
Can I turn this tempo-adjusting function off?? (I am able to change the tempo this then changes my whole song;s tempo)

YES!!! I wonder if this is possible, but most likely it's not. Yet it is very annoying when trying to audition small one-shot samples, etc.

i believe if you go into the warp settings, and under loop/warp short samples - select unwarped one shot - will drag most small loops & hits unwarped, and also play them back in the browser unwarped
cheers
