hi guys,

i just upgraded my MBP C2D 2.16ghz with 2x 2gb sticks to 4gb of ram.

i know that he can adress only 3.2gb, but my IT guru has recommended it to use two sticks of the excact same typ. and to buy 2x 2gb sticks.

point is it is dirt cheap i paid not even 60 euro for 4gb of quality Apacer memory.

and the speed bump / responsiveness is defenitely very noticable and well worth the money.

i am still on 10.4.11

but i am shure you get it elsewhere for that money if not even cheaper, usually stuff like that is more expensive over here.

Yeah - I'm thinkng of going down that route with my Mac Mini as well. Read somewhere that 3 gigs was sufficient, because you wouldn't really notice that last increase due to matched ram. Even though Apple recomends it.

I upgraded my MacBook from 1gb -> 2gb for $65 like a month ago, and now it's down to less than $50! www.newegg.com
Memory is cheap as dirt these days, and it make a difference. Why, I remember way back when I was a young lad. 8 megs was a big deal, and it was like $300.

I've been thinking of upgrading my RAM for a while now - and at the prices RAM is at right now, I think I'm going to.

I currently have 1GB RAM in my HP ZD8000. From advice that I've read, it seems that the max RAM for that model is 2GB. Now - this is where I'm confused. I've also read that for max performance you should include the max RAM in EACH SLOT...

Eh? Does that mean I have to put 2GB in each slot (MAX in EACH slot) or does that mean 1GB in each slot (MAX ACROSS slots)...

Grrrrr...

I'm now running 7 gig of ram in a mac pro quad, mainly just because i can and it was cheap.....

Performance wise it seems much faster but i'm not going to do any tests to prove it to myself....

usually the given maximum capacity of what your maschine can hold, e.g. 2gb should be split in equal parts across your slots, meaning in this case 2x 1gb sticks.

ok I'm a little confused it says I should get matched pairs and my MBP goes to 3 GB with two slots. Is it better to max it to 3 or stick with the matched pair? Cause if not I am assuming it would be one 1 GB stick and 1 2GB stick. Anyone with a 2.33mHz MBP care to share what is best?

Because Apple is a bunch of cunts and think that people are stupid enough to pay twice as much for their RAM. Unfortunately, a lot of people are stupid enough to pay it.

basically it is said that you should use matched pairs, e.g. 2x 512mb or 2x 1gb or 2x 2gb of the exact same type.

if you 'mix' then you need in your case to stick the 2gb stick into slot 0 and the 1gb stick into slot 1

i went for 2x 2gb, because he still [my version C2D 2.16ghz] can address 3.2gb and it was soooo... dirt cheap. [as i already said, i paid for 2x 2gb Apacer quality memory not even 60,- euro, that was a no brainer! and it is a recognisable improvement, worth the money]
