Free PadKontrol app by The Covert Operators

Post by Machinate » Tue Dec 18, 2007 1:43 am

Hey,

we made a neat little app to control Ableton Live *properly* from a Korg PadKontrol - no need to install custom scenes or anything - just set up your midi ports once, and go!
Newly updated RC3 version available for both OSX and WinXP!

* The lights now behave "properly"; when a note is on in Live the light stays on. If you go to a different octave range or midi channel the pad lighting will respond to the notes coming from there.
*The Encoder now transmits midi,
*The Knob assign 1 and 2 buttons are used to select octave/channel (like one would have on a regular keyboard)
*SCENE, MESSAGE, Fixed Velocity, Prog Change, Hold, Flam, Roll buttons all output midi
*the X/Y field doesn't reset when you release it anymore.
*The Pedal input is hard-wired to sustain. No messing about.
* The Parameter section now navigates the session view by using Mackie Control Emulation, and you can show hide browser, clip view from the x/y/ buttons while controlling undo/redo from the pedal and setting buttons.
*App automatically saves its midi input/output settings: set and forget!
* edit: The two top knobs have parameter smoothing - the original firmware only had 32 steps on the faders!
Brief manual coming soon, but if you want to try it out straight away it's on our website at:

Have a good one!
Andreas- The Covert Ops.

The bullet points are some of the differences. It's designed to run as an alternative to using presets to get around.

cool - tomorrow Bjorn and I will (hopefully) be able to substitute an external we're using with a home-made abstraction. Until that happens the software will be pc only, unfortunately.

cheers,
a.

so this app acts as a layer between, translating messages from the pk to ableton? interesting.

any latency issues?

does this map the pads correctly for the new drum racks?

i'll def check it out after i get the pk. thx for the app.

the universe has run out of unique variables.

i honestly came up with this handle independently without searching the forum for other users of the same name.

i also invented penny loafers in 1997.

Love the PadKontrol, and like the idea of being able to use it without its odd built in limitations. 8)

so is this basicly just a scene so for instance if you've got a synth loaded and you'd like to control that you just switch scenes?

I would like to know how this works also; I've installed it, but when it seemed to be running my PK was utterly unresponsive (this is when I ran it before opening Live). When I ran it after Live was opened, it didn't seem to be noticed at all.

Some details on how to use this would be great, as it sounds fantastic!

(It doesn't seem to be a PK Scene, since there's no kpkd/s-type files?)
