leopard wont mount but only on my macbook pro!?!?!

Post by Digi V » Tue Dec 18, 2007 2:18 pm

seriously, this is aggravating me to no end. i got leopard because i love spaces but now the install disk wont mount on my macbook pro. it works on my imac and mac mini, weird??

i've tested the macbook with a dvd=fine, cd=fine, and the original tiger install disk=fine.

wtf is going on? is there some kind of work around? maybe target disk mode it from another one of my functioning leopard computers (of course i'll have to back up files from my laptop to later instal)

any suggestions?

Not sure, but when I installed Leopard on my mate's regular Macbook, took around 6 tries before it actually read the CD. Worked fine in my MBP.

it mounted twice but then on restart it failed.

i'm getting so tired of these recent apple issues.

exactly why i have not bothered with this upgrade...

its going to be a year before that is working...

the bigger apple gets the worse it will get...

seems like in DAW world, the only two things that are very big and stayed great are ableton and pro tools...

Cubase 4 is rumored to have problems.. logic is apple...

and saw studio is just plain silly...

so, now we done with that...
too many lasers...

ok, wow i just figured out the problem. you all should read:

so, the issue isn't with leopard at all. i believe its with the disk drive in every single apple computer, that or each brand of DVD+R DL's have something odd going on.

so, the leopard install is on a sony DVD+R DL. it installed on both my imac and mac mini with no problem. though, it did not even read on my macbook pro. i decided to make a copy of the leopard copy on my imac. i bought a set of Nexxtech DVD+R DL's to make the copy.

Now here is the kicker- the macbook reads the nexxtech's but the imac/mac mini do not. i couldn't even make the fucking copy because my imac spit it out, the same exact way and with the same exact funky noises as my macbook did with the sony disk.

so what the fuck is the deal here? anyone?

Leopard is worth the trouble

Post by membrain » Wed Dec 19, 2007 2:36 am

The dvd drives that apple uses seem quite fussy about what blank media they will write to.

I bought these after reading about different types of blanks and how they are rated, I've had no problems.
Verbatim DVD+RDL2.4X Printable (Pack of 20)
[VERBDVD+D_LINK2.4XPK] $69.00
Verbatim DVD+RDL2.4X Printable (Pack of 20)

It's possibly worth mentioning that the intel macs and the power PC macs require different formatted disks to boot from.

Intel macs need this - Partition Map Scheme : GUID Partition Table

Can't remember what the format is for the power PCs

They can read both partition tables but will only boot from the correct one - this includes the Leopard install disk.

I installed leopard the weekend before it was released (yes I'm bragging) as an upgrade and had a few problems, did a clean install just before installing Live 7 and have been very happy.

My solution is that you take an external HD.
Partition it with one 10 GB.
Then use DiskUtility to recreate the DVD on that partition.

Then go to systempreferences and select startdisc and choose your external hd partition.
Reboot.
Install.

Then be somewhat angry that Apple is getting closer day by day to Microsoft quality when releasing crappy OSes.

WTF is up with needing 2 GB RAMs to run Safari in a proper way?
WTF happened to code optimization?

Do I seem angry? Thats because Leopards is freakin crap on a stick.
My old signature was pretty stupid, so I changed it to this one.

i installed it through target disk mode.

where do you see that safari needs 2gigs of ram to run right?

i love leopard so far. spaces and stacks do so much for me, i've waited for these features forever.

Cubase 4 has loads of problems, VSTi's like battery dont work properly, and on a mac its worse.

Logic 8 however is fantastic. Not as good as AL7 though.

Hey DigiV Don't feel bad and don't feel crazy.

When i went from Jaguar to Panther on my G4 Tower(I know i'm dating myself here)
I had a shitload of problems. The disc wouldn't mount at all.I went through hell just to get that upgrade.Brought the tower to compusa to see what was up and all of a sudden the tech. said it worked fine no problems

Then gave me a bill :x .....which i handed to applecare.

Updates scare me but i'm looking forward to leopard. It will come preinstalled on my new MBP oneday.......
