preference setting

Is there a 'Preference Setting" so LIVE does NOT default back to the last file I saved when File>Open Live Set' is selected?

You mean ctrl-O ?
Why to use it if You may set the browsing manager (those three nice buttons with numbers on the left) to your project file and open sessions from within it?
At once You've got a quick view to the sessions content like clips, tracks, samples, loops and so on,
Ain't it 1337?

In Live Preferences --> File/Folder --> save actual set as default (or what ever it's called in english).

i think that's what you want......

That'll work, but Ctl O is the one I don't want defaulting to the last file saved.

I thought you'd be correct, but it appears in LIVE 7, that option is not in the Preference>File Folder bin.

mmh, also in Live 7 it's the first option in "File/Folder".....
at least here.

Are you in Preference>File Folder ?

The first one i see is "Save Current Set AS Template"

Open an empty set, map your controller to it or whatever you want (no clips) and then save it as TEMPLATE, go to preferences>File folder> save current set as template. This way everytime you open LIVE...it will open an empty set with your favourite mapping to it and just start having fun...
