how to use ableton live as a looper
Before beginning, hit play, then record on the first track, then stop immediately - so, before it starts recording. If you're quantized to 1 measure, if you hit record on beat 2, then stop on beat 3 you'll have no problem. Hit stop again, and you're back to bar 1:1:1, but the track is still waiting to record. When you're ready to start playing, tap 5 beats (1-2-3-4-1), and Live will start recording right on the second 1. Since the track is already set to record, you don't have switch footpedals in the middle of your tap, and going all the way to the downbeat of the next measure will increase your accuracy. It's still takes some practice, but it makes it easier.exaltron wrote:
The only workaround I did figure out with the foot pedal is to start playing while Live is stopped on zero, then tap 1-2-3 on the tap tempo (skip the four as it won't generally improve the tempo capture) and then start a loop on the next 1. I've had about a 53% success rate with this method, ie, FAIL.
tryin it now..

ahh common.. dont go all silly!!!.....
ok.. i tried it out.. some problems... like i said before you can map midi controlls in live to the record/overdub buttons...it doesnt accept keystrokes either unless its the active window...
also.. as i route my guitar into one dummy track and then off into others.. when monitor is set to OFF it doesnt have a signal
PLEASE ableton.. give us audio overdubbing!!!!!

what do any of those things do that mobius doesn't? and mobius is free, so why get HW that will be outdated the day you buy it, if not sooner, even with updates? (this from someone who's tried all the boss pedals, the things who's name i'm forgetting (not boomerang, the other one), has a 2880, etc.)

because the repeater already can't do half the stuff mobius can. (and you can run mobius on a mac via windows, don't know what that does to performance.) not knocking the repeater really, if it works for you, god speed (as i think i mentioned, i have a 2880, find it very useful for certain things, considered getting a looperlative (think that's the name), etc.). but still seems somewhat strange to still be using -- and paying lots for -- HW in this day and age, particularly where the HW lags what SW can do, generally is harder to configure, etc. (admittedly, HW is often way more stable, you may like not dealing with a computer, etc.).
i'm actually surprised there isn't a pricey looper SW alternative, with all the options/performance/flexibility various types of live musicians might want. there's clearly demand, may just be that many trad instrumentalists are taking their time getting with computer music (rather than HW solutions), so demand's not there yet. i'd pay lots for such SW (by which i mean live or reaktor prices, cause i'd use it that much), even though mobius and some other SW loopers already do most of what i need for free (or for a nominal fee).
have you tried looperlative or boomerang?

Just turn the feedback up to 95% for a delay line on the incoming track. When you want to change the tempo change the delay length
