imaginary shopping - your setup for recording ......

Post by babkubwa » Tue Jan 22, 2008 9:10 pm

imaginary shopping - what equipment would you buy if you were building a studio to record a typical rock band? (disregarding acoustic treatments )

and what would you buy if planning to build a mobile recording studio capable of recording an ensemble consisting of string quartet and piano in a concert hall?

Who's playing the cello in this string quartet?

These details will affect my shopping requirement considerably.

If by "imaginary" you mean buying something you can't afford, I'd buy the same thing for both... an Apogee Symphony system with a slew of Vintech preamps, 1176ln and Distressors, Neumann and Blue mics.

well, i'll play. kinda like playing as your favorite sports persona, in middle school.

you know what? no i won't. i typed 2 things, and was flooded with ideas. i don't want to play anymore. i'm going home, deciding my setup is crap, and booking time at tone's studio.

I would have all new, top of the range kit.

And one, just one, reeeeeeally old compressor that i fee everything through.

This compressor I pass off to my customers as some wonder vintage thing that i nurse and admire on a daily basis.

in reality it makes a light farting noise and ruins everyones mix, but they are all too polite to say anything and I get angry if anyone questions it's value.
