You have to be really careful, power goes to some people's heads in very strange ways. Somebody recently got made a mod on another poular audio forum and practically ruined it in under a month. If he didn't agree with something somebody had said he'd just delete the thread, or the post. It was pretty funny really because in the end he made himself look a right prick but the forum's fairly trashed now as far as poularity goes.

So if you had to choose somebody from A. Austrailia/New Zealand, B. The US, C. Europe, who would it be? They have to be high posters, proving that they spend enough time on the forum to notice and delete porn threads as they appear, and also have no leanings toward meglomania/mischief.

IMO, no moderation needed.

If you don't want to read a thread, don't.

Yeah, I completely agree. I'm just talking about deleting porn threads that's all, it's getting really hard to check the forum at work without it looking really sketchy.

It won't happen, this more a "what if" whimsical little thread. Seriously i wish the Abes'd find a real solution though.

Come on. it could conceivably get to the point where you are hunting through porn threads / dodgy cheap software threads etc. to find genuine threads. Spam increases exponentially. This isn't a 'hoiier than though' opportunity.

I also don't agree with people expressing a preference for moderators. I couldn't give a shit who deletes porn threads. they have no way of expressing themselves through that !!

I dont think they'll do it that way

they'll opt for some kind of clever option that takes 3 years to implement :P

I'm trying to cut down here any way! ;-)

BTW - I have to bump this now and agree something needs doing URGENTLY

I just clicked on Chris Cowie's Warp a track thread and someone has actually replied to the thread with porn

it's getting totally out of hand now if you cant even identify it by the thread and good threads that have seen a lot of milage and I think that one is even linked from the tips/tricks sticky

that's bad

I dont mind doing it as I'm here enough, but they've already kind of said they dont want to do it that way

but to be honest, I cant see how else they'd do it if even existing threads are being hacked - how can you teach a computer to differentiate that?

I think the problem is more to do with the way it is all set up - as in security settings to do with peoples accounts etc - I guess maybe people with mod rights can also see people's serials etc - that's a guess though, but I have a feeling it's not as simple as just letting us delete theads

but now that I've seen Chris' warping thread has been hacked, I cant see how this can be dealt with any other way than with humans

The forum's is just a basic PHPBB, I'm not too sure if it's possible or not, you'd imagine that there might be a few people at Ableton that just might be capable of some rudimentary coding and that somebody might be able to find a way. I suppose it depends how important this forum really is to their business, maybe they should just be a bit more vigilant at the current level of Ableton moderating or employ somebody to monitor it as well as perhaps doing other general secretarial/gimp based tasks.

I don't know what the answer is, all I know is I'm afraid to look at it at work these days which is a shame cos it gets mighty dull there sometimes.

There should be a difference between admin and mod rights yes. And the forum doesn't seem to have much to do with your ableton login at the side, so why would the serials be stored here?

The problem comes where the mods want to decide whats offtopic and whats not. If they get strict orders ONLY to delete the spambot threads which are easy to spot i doubt there will be any trouble though. This forum is moderating itself, it seems. Maybe thats because its actually not such a bad idea to mix up off topic and relevant posts in the general section as some thinks it is :)

Which is why I don't trust nebulae. The forum would be inundated with stupid jokes and corny pictures. Plus some people clearly dislike him and him them, so I don't think he should have that power.

High posters tend to think they "own" the forum. Not a good idea in my opinion. I think it should be solely Ableton's responsibility. While it is better with no moderators, it is true that other music sites have no links to porn, so perhaps that issue has to be addressed.

So the moderators only job should be to remove spam posts. NO locking threads or editing other people's post. And defiently no deleting threads wether or not they are offtopic and slightly offensive.
