I've volunteered for spam clean up before. Set up some system with Alex to make sure spam gets deleted.
They didn't ask me, I volunteered.
But after about 2000 emails containing many more links, I gave up.
Either they install some decent plugins (fat chance), They pay somebody to take care of their forum (at the moment you're all at the whims of whichever Abe is online) or they just let the place go to hell.

The point is: Cleaning up spam on this forum is basically a full-time job that requires somebody to be available around the clock. So the logical solution would be a small team... But every Ableton employee is already swamped with work and Ableton is too cheap to pay one or more of the users around here..

End conclusion: Spam does get deleted. It just doesn't happen as fast as it should. And as bots get "smarter', a lot more posts just disappear from page one but not from the archive.

This isn't a fight against spambots. Its a fight against the stubbornness of Ableton.
Don't forget what they pulled with that edit button!

The thing is the easiest and simplest solution by far to this is to just allow those who are here the most accross the time zones to do it

I dont think any of us want Ableton to spend their time or resources (which they could be putting towards automation in session view) on spam

we're already here, so we might as well

I'm not exactly desperate to do it myself, but if it was just a case of pressing delete I'd do it and I'd guess so would you

not the same as sending emails, I definitely dont want it to take up any of my time at all, but just pressing delete while I check messages anyway is no big deal

all the anxiety about mods abusing power is irrelevant because this is not a bout thread content for legitimate people, it is about the growing abuse of automated spam bots to ruin the Ableton forum - it doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out who is a real person and who is a 'bot'

Last time I checked, this is a forum for musicians.

Not Kids, not corporations.

Musicians like sex. Musicians like freedom.

Fuck censorship. Fuck Moderation.

Long live free speech. Offensive or not!

Keep it free Abes!!!

I know what you a saying... But have you watched the six o'clock news lately...? Do you do that behind closed doors or only when the kids are put to sleep?

We can't and shouldn't protect ourselves or our kids against everything... Pron bots are actually the least of our problems when talking about protecting the innocent .

No moderation! No censorship!

We have enough of that in our general life anyways.

Jesus, there's already censorship and moderation on here.

already been pointed out: adonis had to change stuff/got stuff changed, pron bots already get deleted when an abe gets round to it, slag off hawtin and your ass is outa the door super quick...it's already happening (man), the only thing being requested is that it gets dona a bit quicker.

i reckon m breqs should be moderator :D

@JesQuick: actually the news is never on in this house, and no I dont want my 6 yo son seeing hardcore porn frankly, and I dont think I should only be able to check the forum at night when he's in bed

and I dont think it is wise to allow the forum to be unfriendly for the workplace either

I reckon in those two examples I have described a huge portion of the traffic to this forum

the porn bots are the least annoying to me..

i mean come on.. you instantly know it's a bot by thread title don't you?
just don't click it..

what really really annoys me is all the OT stuff..
to me that is as much spam as porn bots..

finding valuable information and resources on this site is hell..

if they want to clean up the forum, start there..

No, didn't think you'd let your son watch porn/news etc. either. I'm just saying that this is the shit we have to live with everyday anyway, so why is it so bad (or worse) that we see a few pronbots in here. There's lots of stuff in life we are trying to protect our kids (or our boss) against, that's just the way it is. Incl. on the Ableton forum. At least pornographic pictures are rarely a part of the pron-spam. And will be erased by Ableton when they become aware of it.

Again, if a script could do it for us it would be ok. But there's a lot of pitfalls when you start going down the censorship road, IMHO.

But Ok, an Ableton employed moderator might be a compromise I'm willing to make... Don't think that will happen, though.

Best

I volunteered too, but never heard back from Ableton. There's definitely people on this forum who could be trusted to delete only porn threads and nothing else, so I don't see why people are opposed to the idea. Not everyone is attention hungry and looking to delete posts left and right :)

Abletonia is an anarchist society.

The Abe's don't want to force a government upon us. They enjoy our self-moderation, much in the same way that school children enjoy looking through the glass at ants in an ant farm.

If the Abes can figure out a way to drop a midi clip on an audio cell and have the midi notes instantly bounce to audio, then they can figure out filters and things to keep the boobs and Viagra out.

I, for one, say nay to mods.

yes, they do - but I think they'd rather not.

so...

Instead of a mod (who can delete posts, ban people etc) how about a simple CAPTCHA - that would solve half the problems here

and I have faith in the members to moderate themselves...pretty inventive group

but a forum admin would be great ;)
