Apple Mainstage
Does anybody know of anything like this for Windows? I've been using this as a song writing tool on my mac, but would love to suggest a comparable app for my windows friends.
Or mayby have something for my PC laptop.
Thanks!

Tell them to use Energy XT. It's modular and can basically do anything Mainstage can but without the eye candy (and it won't rape your GPU either). Think of Logic's environment as a VST host/VST plugin and you have Energy XT. On a side note: it's a pity VSTack doesn't allow audio input, it could be the perfect arch enemy to Mainstage.

Basically... Mainstage loads up a simple mixer interface and allows use of virtual instruments. It also allows you to create a semi custom interface with virtual midi devices on the screen (drumpads, faders, etc.). Yes... it mostly is a live performance tool... but what I find helpful is that I am using it to write music (the old fashioned way) not construct it via loops and sequences.jonny72 wrote:I thought Main Stage was for live performances rather than composition (which would be Logic).
Is there some particular feature that you're looking for?
So yeah... pretty much any DAW can do this... In it's own way... I just like the simplicity of it. It really is liberating.
and another thing...
The desktop layout system for putting objects like text, pictures, and virtual controllers is awesome when writing. (that's what I am looking - that's what sets it apart from a simple VST host)
Steinberg's V-Stack is kinda like Mainstage, but without the "desktop" features.
