'The Sheep Look Up" by John Brunner, I read this a long while ago, and it made quite an impression on me, and sad to say that current events remind me more and more of it:

UTENZIL a tool... of the muse.
If there's one book I'd recommend:
"Roadside Picninc" by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky. Absolutely brilliant Sci-fi if you ask me.

+1 on dick. i like scifi a bit, i even enjoy reading star trek books <laugh, i know>, but i really liked the ender's game books. i am interested in reading some more scifi, asmov has some good short stories, will def check out y'alls books.
i've really been into manga lately, as well. just finished the akira storyline, very, very cool. very scifi, plus the artwork is real nice, esp for black and white. if you haven't checked akira out, i highly recommend it... and if anyone can recommend some really good manga along the same lines, i'd def +1 that i prefer graphic novels to serials, tho, i run thru a serial in a very short time, too expensive for the amount of reading...

Angel Dust Apocalypse by Jeremy Robert Johnson
It's not really strict Sci-Fi, more 'Bizzaro' literature. Still, it's good.

a few from the top of my head
'Quarantine' by Greg Egan (any of his books actually)
'Everyone in Silico' by Jim Munroe
'pattern recognition' by William Gibson (I prefer it to the recent most one)
'the postman' by David Brin is a good book and waaay better than the abysmal movie
'Vert' by jeff Noon
and the old favourite - 'Snowcrash' by Neal Stephenson.
Robert Reed's books are all worth a go, as are Vernor Vinge's and it goes without saying that most stuff by P.K. Dick is worth reading, even the pap.

Which would you recommend? I've been wanting to read some of his short stories lately, and maybe even try to apapt one into a live set. "Flow My Tears the Policeman Said" had a profound effect on me I can't quite describe.pulsoc wrote:"Valis" or any other by Phil K Dick
I have found the short stories anthologies (annual Best of's) to usually have some really good stuff.
I've been wanting to read Dhalgren by Samuel Delany for awhile.
+1 to Gibson, Dick, and Asimov.
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is incredible, though not strictly sci-fi.
