Anyone else hear the stories about Republicans turning into Democrats just for the day to vote in Hillary as "she would be easier for McCain to beat"?
Bullshit. 100% bullshit. Republicans know for a fact that McCain wouln't beat either candidate. They can't stand McCain and would only back him in public, if they had to, verbally. What they do at the poll is private...
The real reason they voted for Clinton is simply becuase they would rather have a white woman than a black man as President. The thought of a black man leading the country is too much. I would even venture to say that having a black woman as President would be ok... (Condi). "Just don't give that power to a black man and everything will be allright..."
We may have landed the first man on the moon but our ideals still haven't left the plantation in Mississippi.

Republicans are voting blue because McCain is a douchebag. the GOP is completely fucked up, there's the value voters (they vote how Jesus tells them to vote), there's the glass desert voters (McCain who wants to stay in Iraq forever and kill all them foreigners) then there's the money voters like Kramerica who want tax cuts.
there was a wide array of GOP candidates too, that further splintered the GOP. I think Ron Paul also helped to splinter the more idealistic republicans, now that he's gone they're left with assholes.
there's WAAAAY more to this election than skin color and a penis check, then again, maybe I just don't get exposed to the mouth breathing knuckle dragging rednecks that you do.

so I googled "what happened to the GOP" and found some forum posts, republicans discussing their views. I'm not cherry picking, this is a post I thought was well thought out

Well it seems obvious by many of these post so far that the Republican party of old is not the Republican party of today. I too was once a staunch Republican and have always held Libertarian leanings, a "Taft Republican" one might say. I left the party back at the end of 2001, as it has become a different party than the one I grew up knowing.
Under the current administration the Federal government has expanded more than it ever has since FDR, it has decided to borrow from future generations to the point where our dollar isn't worth a peso. Our military is being used as a tool of a failed foreign policy and is barely able to preform its primary function which is to DEFEND the United States. The party has been saturated with immorality with the likes of Vitter, Craig, and I charge even Bush and Cheney themselves. The party no longer exudes an air of confidence that Ike and Reagan once shown, but now it panders to fear.
I think if nothing else the Ron Paul campaign has shown that many Americans from all walks gravitate towards the more traditional aspects of the former GOP. The views of Taft, Teddy Roosevelt, Ike, Barry Goldwater, Ronald Reagan are views that many people can relate and respect even if they don't agree with them in whole. What we have today is an infection by a parasitic group that are gutting the GOP into an ineffective and unelectable party.
I only hope the party returns to its roots before Jenna and Chelsea are old enough to run.

I'm in Cleveland which isn't quite redneck but I get yer point. There were actual accounts of card carrying Republicans switching simply becuase they don't want a black president in office. How is that hard to believe? Cleveland is actually quite liberal compared to Cincinatti, where there is some serious bible thumping but I wouldn't go so far to say mouth breathing... that's a bit further down the line...

btw if you check the primary turnout numbers, you'll see fewer and fewer republicans were turning out to vote as they progressed. come election day the dems will win solely based on voter turnout.
