age nothing but a number

Post by razzy » Wed Mar 12, 2008 9:38 pm

now to some of you this might sound strange not much of a tech question, more of a random thing which has been running through my mind, im 30yrs of age (old i know)
and i really want to get in to djing or music production but not sure if im to late as ive been reading on other djs such as pete tong, steve angello and Lincoln Barrett (high contrast) etc etc as they all started at 15 or 16 yrs of age, if feel that i should of started at that age, am i past my peak, any feed back would be appreciated

cheers

It's never too late to start. The important thing is the desire...

If this helps...I'm 40 y/o  I have a background as a guitarist for a rock band some years ago, but I'm trying to make my way into electronic music playing "live acts".
Never it's too late... 8O

I don't think age has anything to do with it. When these guys started young there wasn't much competition. 15 years ago there weren't DJ gigs at clothes stores and hair salons. Now whether you're 12 or 30 you are going to have to work your ass off to compete. The main advantage for a younger person is that they have more time to do these things and slack off with other life responsibilities. As you get older it's going to take better time management and balance with adult expectations.

I personally don't think it is ever too late to go after something you are passionate about. Keep in mind that people are living longer now too and the 30's are the new 20's and so on.

if 40 is the new 30, then 30 is the new 20. ew hit the nail on the head. the only time age matters is for rappers. most rappers don't make it past 30 (career wise...) and strippers, of course...

although i guess by that logic, 20 is the new 10  which would make andre_92 like 5... chuckie cheese anyone?

(edited for my moron-ness) it all matters what you do, and how well you do it... how old do you feel? i feel like i am 14 still...

All the people that you see here fooling around, joking, playing and producing music... how many of them do you think are under 30? You'll be surprised by the answer...

I'm 33 by the way, and as almost everyone here over 30, I feel 15!!!!

Music makes me feel young! makes me forget about all may problems...

There's no time to start anything, just do it with your heart! and practice, study, play, listen, watch others in action... and HAVE FUN!!!

I think Ableton needs to officially change the name of this section to Hipsters.
