Lenovo T61 laptop
Hey
Anyone used/ing one of these?
I think it's hot and I'm just about to click the Buy It Now! on one in particular.
Talk me out of it!
PS: I've got enough Macs

Suit #1: I mean, have you got any insight as to why a bright boy like this would jeopardize the lives of millions?
Suit #2: No, sir, he says he does this sort of thing for fun.

What's Mobius?OvertoneZero wrote:Are you buying it to run Mobius?
I mostly want a Core 2 Duo to 1) play with virtualisation & 2) have enough power for light internet + e-mail usage..

Basically running more than one operating system at a time. Besides being stupidly fast, the Core 2 apparently has some technology to do this with little to no overhead.OvertoneZero wrote:I don't know what virtualization is
I obviously have absolutely no need for doing this, but it's fun - especially running older operating systems.. My P III ThinkPad just doesn't have the grunt to really make it usable (although it fakes a decent System 7 Mac with Basilisk II)...

I have a T60 which is the predecessor model and the only real problem I have with it is the share graphic memory.
If I have some clips running and I move around certain VST GUIs my sound card (which probably also contributes to the problem) gives my drop outs or a heavily distorted audio signal.
Didn't expect this kind of problem when I bought the laptop but now it really annoys me.

I don't know what laptop it is, but I would guess that the mp3 player is just plugged into a USB port.o0o wrote:WHAT laptop is in this photo and is that an mp3 player that slides in and out of the laptop?

I've got an R61 which is basically the slightly cheaper version of the T series and I really like it.
Haven't used it for audio yet but it's a great, sturdy little machine and for some reason I like the matte black industrial look of the Thinkpads much better than the shiny exteriors of most other laptops.

Thinkpads are definitely best build laptops, while I used to stick to Mac and Vaio, for past years they are not ideal for stage, MBP gets the dents etc.
IBM is simple but not ugly (unlike Dell that insults my esthetic sense) and very stiff due to that cage structure. The best part the cooling since they are not part of Mac;Sony competition -thinner, lighter prettier - there is enough space for cooling. It makes hell of difference if you run visuals, 90-100% formany hours. T61 stays cooler then MBP or Vaio = less noise too.
Only weak part compared to Vaio SZ,lousy battery time 30% of Sony.
I earn my money with laptop, the price is not main factor- I need the best, most reliable and Thinkpad is the one at the moment. For home/studio regular use I would take MBP but heavy use , stage etc definitely Thinkpad.
