OT: Quitting Smoking

Post by evernaut » Wed Mar 26, 2008 11:24 pm

Approaching day 6 of cold turkey-style smoking cessation.

Damn, it's proving to be a bit more challenging than I thought.

Good job I have a large supply of Steely Reslove 8)

I also never thought I'd be puffing away on a child's bubble-blowing pipe with such fervent desire at this stage of my life.

I quit 5 weeks ago and it was extremely tuff on me at first. I gave in and smoked 1 last week but that was it. Haven't smoked since and hope to keep it up. Everyone should quit!

Keep going! The ONLY way to truly quit (FOR ME) was cold turkey. That patch shit is worse than CT any day. Nothing like a ride on the ol' nicotine roller coaster. The first two weeks is rough and somewhat physical. there are some REALLY great natural smoking detox products at the health food stores. Get something with Cayenne & Lobelia in it. You'll be hackin' up huge lung cookies in no time and feelin' like a million bucks

(all crisp 'n dried out) 8O

a good food based vitamin B complex would be great for you as well.

above all, keep going. :D

This past January 5th was my 2 year point for not having a cig. I was a pack a day smoker that went cold turkey.

Every time I wanted a smoke I would say to my self, "It would feel great to have a cig but I just don't smoke anymore, oh well."

It's all about your mind set. Best of luck it really feels great once you know you quit.

Same amount of time, I found it really hard for about 3 days, then suck for about a year. Makes you realize how tied to emotions smoking is when EVERY time you argue, fuck, laugh, and have some major catastrophe happen you want a smoke. I forgot eating, waking up, taking a break at work etc.

What helped me was realizing what a totally corrupt industry I was supporting by smoking. Everybody knows that smoking is addictive, and to think that some asshole is sitting there with waterfront property and a yacht from coming up with Joe Camel!

nice! congrats, a lot of people don't make it.
i thought of it as being ill. i just kept telling myself i'm supposed to feel like shit and there's nothing i can do about it.

i just accepted it felt like shit to withdrawal.

i took a seriously long time for me to get to the point where the thought of smoking was a turnoff. that took a good 6 years, but i'm there now and it is great ;)

It's either hard or easy, depending on your commitment, reason for quitting, and length of time without.

For me it gets easier every day. Unless I am travelling. But then it leaves again.

5 years now, and i was only the first 6 months that were hard.

I'm on 4.5 years without a smoke and it sucks for a while but hang on it does get better and you eventually get to the point where you find it completely disgusting. Just remember that its a habit that, if done properly, is designed to kill you.

Withdrawal symptoms = body healing itself

It's been over 25 years for me. Haven't looked back. Just looking forward...

10 years. Tried a lot of ways to quit but eventually the allan carr book got me into the right state of mind. Haven't had a problem or a smoke since.

Tobacco industry, those are some EVIL mf's.
