If you're on a mac what about sending midi to a Quartz Composer patch which just flashes on and off to the beat..??

its pretty easy.. i've just knocked this up..

all it does is tell you which beat you're on numerically.. you could customise it to create more meaningful information to you...whatever your drummer needs..

Thanks but thats one of the many PC apps not ported to OS X...

yes you can open it and do whatever you want with it.. i made it in leopard by the way.. you will certainly need to tailor it to suit your drummers needs..

all you need to do is change the clock receive to be from ableton live on the IAC bus (internal midi).

I would try a nice small, comfy, in ear monitor to replace the headphones before going visual...as a drummer myself I would much rather hear the nome. I can't imagine trying to keep my eyes on a visual cue for a whole tune, that would take focus away from other musicians and the actual music one is trying to create. That being said, I can definitely relate to the guy not wanting bulky phones on for a gig; that would suk.

as i'm gathering momentum to my 1000th post, i thought i'd update the clock counter QTZ to make it a bit more useful and have it flash on the beat and also show a bar counter also.. still lots of room for improvement but here you go anyway
