Help: Harmonic Mixing / Key recognition in Mixmeister

Post by Coupe70 » Thu Apr 10, 2008 11:01 am

Somewhere on this forum I read that Mixmeister is very good in key recognition. So I tried the demo and imported a few hundred songs to test it. Now ALL imported tracks are recognised as minor (not a single one major) which can't be true. Does anyone know what's going on there ?

A number of possibilities:
  • Most dance music is in minor keys. So if it's dance music (or another genre that tends to be in minor keys) that's could be possible.
  • Every minor has a relative major that is 3 semitones higher - e.g. A minor and C major. For the most part, it doesn't matter which of these two keys a track is actually in (the actual notes are the same).
  • It's just not very good at it after all! I tried using Rapid Evolution to detect keys but wasn't happy with the results. Now I do it all manually.
Hope that helps...
