That's exactly what happened to us! Please give it a try, check an Edirol Midi Interface. After two years of syncin' nightmare we finally found peace with this solution...you would not laugh if you have seen the shit i see every time i try to sync with live
you can watch the tempo change values up and down like a train wreak coming head on.
Even the Universe is curved, my friend. If you run far enough and fast enough, you'll end up right where you began....

Re: IMPOSSIBLE TO SYNC OUTBOARD TO LIVE!!!!!!!!!!!
i find that clock timing drift happens with some midi interfaces but not with others. i.e. it happens when i use the midi out from the motu ultralite, but not when i use my midisport or uc33 midi out. maybe you can borrow someone's midi interface and see if it makes any difference...

Your putdowns are as imaginative as the derivative 4/4 shite you pass off as musak.

I can sync my MD to Live via Ultralite perfectly now.. don‘t know if it‘s the new computer or Live 8. Btw thanks for fixing the bug where you had to restart Live to have changes in the sync delay take effect.
Re: IMPOSSIBLE TO SYNC OUTBOARD TO LIVE!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey Daim,
any chance you could maybe post a wav of the solid sync in action ? Not that I doubt you, but I'd love to hear a digital snare sample with a fast attack (or some thing similar) with rigid quantization layered over an identical pattern on the MD ..... maybe load up a few sample clips, midi clips in live (but muted) and launch them whilst recording, just to see if any kind of usage fucks with the time. ...

Re: IMPOSSIBLE TO SYNC OUTBOARD TO LIVE!!!!!!!!!!!
That‘s almost how I tested it. I took a simple bassdrum with short attack and recorded it. Then i played it in another track and compared that to the actual MD output. I hear slight phasing effects most of the time. But it‘s not getting worse after a while or getting completely out of sync like it did before. Will post sth tomorrow. Btw the first hit is still messed up but that doesn‘t bother me.

Re: IMPOSSIBLE TO SYNC OUTBOARD TO LIVE!!!!!!!!!!!
I‘m uploading it to the sharing beta right now.
Edit: Just aborted. While recording it sounded fine. Now when playing both clips it‘s not in sync anymore. Strange, got no track delay set..
Edit2: Will upload it anyway

I'll give it a listen later, cheers.
BTW you really shouldn't waste your time testing/proving sync without also launching (muted) midi & sample clips in the background...

Re: IMPOSSIBLE TO SYNC OUTBOARD TO LIVE!!!!!!!!!!!
You are totally right. The example I uploaded proves that it‘s staying in sync perfectly as long as there is no plugin loaded. As soon as I load a plugin into a muted clip the liveinput of the MD is shifting and I can hear a delay between the recorded clip and the liveinput.
That‘s so obvious a Live bug.. hard to believe they didn‘t notice it. Propably they tested without having plugins loaded up.
Ableton!!!!! Test your midi sync with plugins loaded!!!! I‘m uploading an example of this behaviour to the sharing beta.
