girlfriend and 8-core mac
girlfriend and 8-core mac
my girl took a voluntary separation from her work and she just got a fat paycheck.. about $80K.. she's gonna pay off some bills of and taking some time off, but most importantly, she asked what would be my dream computer? I've been telling her how slow my computer is (Mac G5 dual 2.0).. so she says, go to the apple site and configure what you want.. So automatically, I am thinking 8-core macpro, but then again.. is it really worth it.. should I just get an I-mac and get some other toys, or is the 8 core really worth it? will live even use all 8 cores evenly? any suggestions would be great... Oh BTW, I was kinda joking when i showed her a $30K mac configuration w/ all the works just to see what my limit is...she is willing to pay up to $5k..
She sounds ace. I'd keep her and get a ring on her finger quick

if you are just working on music don't bother. if you are doing motion graphics or other ram intensive visual projects that require lots of rendering then go for it. other wise get one of those nice beefed up imacs. the 24" screens are gooch. and duo core 3ghz processors with 4gb of ram is more than you will ever need for music.

She'll probably let you buy it then throw it out the window and stomp in it.
Then she'll say "NOW HAVE I GOT YOUR ATTENTION YOU DICK?"

My vote is for the Macbook @2.4ghz with a 23" cinema display, and enough money left over to buy a Lemur!
Or go with a third party display and get something bigger.
The other option that i'd be likely to take is to get a Lemur and a 30" Cinema display. Screw raw power, get items you want, but cannot justify spending money on.
I like the connectivity of the Macbook Pros so I probably would just get the 2.4ghz model macbook pro with 7200rpm 200gb HD (not an option on the macbook line) and a Lemur. Get an LCD later. Another Macbook Pro advantage is that connecting an LCD is not CPU drain.
