best dj software for mp3s + midi controller?
best dj software for mp3s + midi controller?
can anyone recommend me some?
i don't want time coded vinyl, and live is of course great but a bit faffy if you just want to mix two tracks plus add an effect or two. which is what i'm after in this case. to be controlled via midi knobs and buttons.
cheers!

Mixmeister Fusion.
Mixvibes 3dex.
Traktor.
All dead easy to use. You can't get very creative with 'em, though. Stick with Live, mate. Make it as simple or as complex as you like. 2 tracks in Session View with an effects rack on each and 1 return track for send effects is as simple as you like.
For a controller with midi knobs n' buttons, I'd go for an Axiom keyboard. I have the Axiom 49, but you could save a few quid and get the Axiom 25.

I had a similar question - see here: http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=90450
I went for Traktor and, after initial doubts, really like it for what it is: purpose-designed for DJing. For what I wanted, Live was too much faffing. Wish I could've used Live for everything, but am happier on the dedicated DJ-software route. The demo of Traktor is fully functional (apart from saves, and limited to 30-minute sessions), so give that a spin (ahem) and maybe it'll be the right thing for you too...
Hwyl!

Well you can go torq-xponent if you dont mind the ok quality of the xponent. if you liek M-audio stuff then u will more then likely liek this setup. Torq has a lot of features and is easy to use but can be iffy to run on a mac...they will be updating to 1.5 shortly which will give new features and more stabaility but just read over at torq-dj.com and check it for yourself.
For me I didnt like it for a couple reasons
I didn't need all of the features of torq as it has very many
I didnt like the quality of the xponent faders
It did not run that great on my mac
I am switching to traktor to give it a try and also plan on getting a vci300 when they come out and will give serato itch a try as well

cheers for the responses, i'll give traktor a go!
as to the controller, sorry bad phrasing i didn't mean to ask about which one to get. i'm getting the e-mu xboard 25, much like the m-audio thing but with twice as many knobs, and aftertouch (should be nice for portable producing too, my synths both need mains to run!)

to the smartasses who suggest live, please tell me
1. how to map a midi controller to the pitch of each channel. not the currently selected clip, the channel.
2. how to map a midi controller to start/stop/cue/loop each channel. again, not the currently selected clip, the channel!
3. how to browse and load mp3s without using the mouse
i use live for live stuff, but want a dj app for a reason

Yeah, agree with you, I ended up at the same conclusion. 1, 2 & 3 easily done in Traktor (note: don't waste your time with Traktor LE) via midi or hot-keys.ciw wrote:to the smartasses who suggest live, please tell me

Exactly the reason why I haven't been using Live for this too. The active clip concept sux, but I'll manage.ciw wrote:to the smartasses who suggest live, please tell me
