That depends on if people let scientists to do stem cell research. The short answer is no. It will never go away. Our only hope is the research that may hopefully fix what we once took for granted. :_(

I have two types of ringing in my ears. First is just a general (seems like balanced) ringing that I can become aware of either at the end of the day when I have shut everything down, house is quite and lying in bed type thing. I can still hear noises above the ringing. The second is sporadic bursts of ringing in my right ear that 'feels' like its toward the center of my head, really kinda 'in there' deep. This noise drowns out other noises, is very load and makes me angry. Are these different conditions or manifestations of the same problem?

I can't tell if its getting worse or if I am becoming more aware of noise. It has only been a year since I moved into my studio. I very rarely listen to loud music, and have a preference for things being quite, (so I can think, meditate and compose with my main instrument which is the classical guitar). It just seems like that now that I am pro active about protecting my ears, I can now hear all sorts of annoying things, that piss me off. One noise comes from my laptop. Its such a high pitch werring that it fades in and out when I turn my head from side to side. It never used to bother me but these days its distracting to say the least. I have no idea how to stop it.

When I was 16 I played a Bass Solo very near to the speaker at very high volume.
That evening changed my life for the next 14 years.
I have been treated in many ways, first with benzodiazepines to let me sleep. After that first terrible 20 days I had to stay 1 year without playing live and from that moment on I played very carefully putting protective corks in my ears.
I have been very careful and after 14 ears it went away or I should say that intensity has been reduced by one half. It depends on the cause you should undergo medical examination, today's diagnostic capabilities are more advanced than in the 80s.
It can be a lot of things and it can even be permanent but do not panic. Your body will learn to compensate and the sound or loss might reduce its intensity overtime. If depends on your age also. The younger the better because the ability to compensate is gradually lost when you grow. I cannot hear some hi-hat overtones and some higher frequencies since that night but the sound in my ears is now something I can live with.
Got a D in the right ear and a Eb in the left, but now it's better. I quit playing live in 2000 and gradually I recovered, for the second time, even if it was never like the first time. Now I have to be careful playing with Live I have to protect my ears. Don't loose hope. The human body has incredible capabilities. Talking about therapies there are some. Act fast and you might achieve some results. Some say that the pressure from the sound could damage the Corti's tissues and you might deliver a vascular micro circulation problem in the internal ear. Some vaso active (dilatation) drug can help restore the normal blood flow and if it's not to late some of the gland capability. You have to refrain from playing loud from some weeks. now your ear tissue is damaged and exposed to more problems.
I recovered from a very frightening situation.
Again act fast, get in contact with a specialist soon.

Good Luck.

bummer :(

i have it to mine is from years and years of loud music, loud guitar, loud bass loud bands and to top that off i spent 5 years in the army with guns and explosives and things like that.

i've learned to block it out but i can hear it when i think about it and when its quite.

i've heard that it can be caused by other things too.
my aunt had TMJ and she went in for chiropractic treatment and her tinnitus went away.

The TMJ could do it; you're putting pressure on the ear canal through the unnatural jaw location and tension.

I've been playing for close to 40 years and I don't have any hearing issues. However, my ears are prone to wax buildup, which helps somewhat. I've also worn hearing protection for the last twenty five years or so, and I always have plugs with me when I go out to a club or concert of some form.

NO! And you should stop listening to loud music right away! Dont go away before you have been to the doctor! if I was you i would go to the ear doctor right on monday!

Don't be a fool and ignore it! It's a serious problem that more and more people have because they are listening to much to loud music! Or they go to a concert or in a club without even thinking about it!

I am dj for more than 20 years and i have always beeing taking care of my ears because they are my most important tool when it comes to music....

If you got luck it is maybe just a warning from your ear, but i dont think so! I have a couple of dj friends who have this problem, and they all was forced to stop playing in clubs in the future!

So Take care in the future! You only got one pair of ears in your life! :D

It may be possible at some point in the future to regrow damaged hair cells inside the inner ear using stem cells, but it's at least 10 years away.

You may be able to reduce tinnitus through various means such as psychological conditioning or increasing blood flow to the brain, but long-term hearing loss due to hair cell damage is generally regarded to be cumulative and irreversible.

I am sorry to hear of your problem and hope that you are able to prevent further damage.

Tinnitus is very weird. I have had it my whole life. I literally remember when I was 5 or 6 and being in a completely quiet room at night. I went and asked my dad why I was hearing ringing in my ears and whether he heard the same noise i was hearing. He was very nice and said that his ears rang sometimes too and not to worry about it.

As I got older and changed (blood pressure goes up/habbits change/bone structure changes/you grind your teeth at night and your wisdom teeth get all screwed up) the ringing would come and go. I remember being like 25-28 years old and it got pretty bad for about a month straight. I was getting pissed (scared) and irritated and one day I woke up and noticed my ears were completely quiet. The thing is this now. Tinnitus for me is very cyclic. My ears will ring for several days until they "peak" and then they will be fine for about the same number of days and then repeat the whole cycle all over. Weird eh?

I have done quite a bit of reading on the subject and the MAJORITY of tinnitus is NOT due to hearing related damage. It's a hereditary condition that has a great deal to do with blood flow and ear fluid discharge. There are several completely different diseases which tinnitus is a manifest symptom of. Some of these can kill you. There are also excellent and HIGHLY effective all natural treatments for tinnitus. I recommend them and can personally testify that they do in fact help. Several things severely aggravate tinnitus and in fact most things that effect the vascular system's continuity. Coffee, Cigarettes, Alcohol, high levels of sodium and various food allergies in general will elevate the ringing in your ears.

Don't get me wrong. VERY loud music is not cool and yeas, your ears will be permanently damaged if you are not careful and use additional precautions like ear plugs. The thing is, tinnitus is not automatically associated with hearing loss. Most of the time when it is, your ears recover from that long before they recover from the actual measurable frequency hearing loss. Such is the case of going to a loud concert or firing a weapon without proper safety precautions in place. Naturally if you do these thing so often that you damage your hearing permanently (Ted Nugent) you have to wear hearing aids and your days of loud music are over.

The first thing you learn when doing heavy duty research into tinnitus is to stop blaming yourself. MANY people have tinnitus, are born with it and have never listened to overt loud noises their entire lives. Many people have severe hearing loss and don't hear ringing in their ears at all.

Tinnitus is still very much a mystery. It may have a great deal to do with bone to middle & inner ear relationships and how the positioning limits blood flow and ear fluid discharge regularity.

Ear laxatives for irritable ear syndrome. Bizarre.

I say wait a week or two before you get too worried.

I never had an ear infection until two months ago, at age 22. I was completely convinced I was going deaf in my left ear. It went away completely a week later, and now I'm totally back to normal.

I blew out my right ear using headphones one night in march of 2000 I think it was. went deaf for a little over a week in that ear and when it came back everything sounded scratchy and staticy. now I can hear pretty much normal aside from the ringing which is really really low intensity thats been there ever since. thank god it isn't very loud though, I can only hear it when the room is quiet.

go to a doctor, I did and they at least make you calm down about the situation.

Unfortunately this is completely true.
Same problem here since a few month.
I went to the doctor, did the test... and he was really amazed by my earing 8O
But, it didn't change anything, it rings permanently.
So, yes, tinnitus don't systematically mean ear loss... but it sucks.
The only way is to be carefull.
