Anybody know of a reasonably sized bus powered, Firewire 400, 7200rpm, for holding my live library ?
I've only managed to find one so far, it's Lacie but it's 320 euro for 200GB

All you'd need is an 2.5" enclosure.
Cheers guys, they did look promising gjm, don't know if i chance that hitachi just yet, plus I hear it's a bit hit and miss whether the drive/enclosure combo will work of the bus.
I can't believe Lacie are the only ones doing these (and they have a selection of just one. Surely I'm not the only person who wants one of these.
What's everyone else using ?

Just picked one of these up yesterday. They're on sale right now, and that's a pretty damn good price on a 500gb drive with FW400 and USB2.0. The only thing I don't like is that there ISN'T an On/Off switch!

Not sure I'm going to use it as an audio drive or a Time Machine drive, I've been using a Ministack V2 enclosure with a 200gb WD drive for 3 years now. Before I bought the Ministack, I had the WD drive in some Bobo brand FW/USB enclosure, but that drive has never failed me once, even when the power went out while I was backing up a project to DVD. I've gotten some goddamn mileage out of that thing, I don't know how many times I've had to spend 3-5 hours burning DVD's and cleaning up/deleting shit to keep from running out of disk space, so when I saw that Maxtor on sale I treated myself.
I thought about getting a Lacie as well, but after speaking to 2 friends who've owned Lacie's, I'm not convinced they're anymore reliable than a Maxtor, WD, etc. Especially not for the significant extra cost.
That's my opinion though, happy Lacie owners feel free to correct me here
If I was going to spend a little extra on a "nicer" external drive, I'd probably get one from OWC.

Not as tiny/rugged as the one you posted but it isn't that big and it's certainly better value.

I have a Maxtor One Touch Ultra III 300GB, it's a top hard drive, very pleased with it's performance and reliability - it also offers FW400 or USB 2.0 connection, on my PC USB 2.0 seems to be slightly quicker, I bet on a Mac it would be the other way around.

Crap. Just checked back and realized I overlooked the "bus powered" requirement in your original post.
Well, here's another drive that fits your criteria, and I've heard nothing but praise for OWC's line of hard drives.

Reasonably sized bus powered, Firewire 400, 7200rpm.
I've had the OWC 200gig triple interface drive for about 2 & a half months and it's been great. It does drain the battery on my MacBook Pro much faster when using it bus powered.
I'd say about one third faster, if not more.
It came with the Hitachi 7K200 drive inside it. You could buy the new Hitachi 7K320 (supposedly draws less power) and buy an OWC enclosure kit and it should be great.

You can check out the FireWire 400/800 enclosure that I use here. I use the miniXpress 825 model that has (1) FireWire 400, (2) FireWire 800, and (1) USB 2.0. I have a 320GB Western Digital Scorpio SATA drive in it and it has been flawless so far on my MacBook Pro 3.1 (Santa Rosa) using the 800 connection. It's bus powered except for the USB 2.0 connection. It has the audio industry standard Oxford FireWire chipset in it and it's made out of aluminum to spread heat evenly.
It's well worth the money in my opinion. I use it with Ableton and Torq. Below is a picture of my actual enclosure.
